What Bike for commuting and road

Bike to work is tempting me at the moment. Always ridden mtb even when commuting, however now on FS I fancy something more speedy. I might be looking for the impossible. I need a commuter, that can take a rack, has disc mounts (does not need discs at time of purchase, is comfortable over long distances, reasonably light. I am thinking cyclocross , the roads are really potholed, want to commute, but have a bike I could use for road days, cycle holidays, long distant marathon stuff. Haul stuff on. My mtb could do all of this but is just slow. Been looking at Jake, Scott Comp, Uncle John, Genesis CXer. Or would I be better off with a true road rig. Has to be under the 1k mark.

    cheers, I like the frame, but as I bike to work deal would be looking at the complete bike, and the build is quite limited i.e. fixed. Shame they do not offer more build options it would be a contender.
