Hi,
Went to SA/the garden route about a year ago and was able to go on a Mountain bike tour down from the Swartberg Pass (v. impressive) near Oudtshoorn. The main hostel in Oudtshoorn do daily tours from there, will drive you up the top of it and you ride down it. The bike wasn’t great but still very impressive – it’s a semi-desert landscape up there and unlike anywhere else I’ve ridden! Fricking hot mind.
I was also in Knysna and although I didn’t go biking there were a lot of MTB tours in the surrounding jungle with some pretty decent machinery – just watch out for the leopards and baboons! BTW if you’re in Knysna you’ve got to go kloofing (the SA version of coasteering) – same up this gorge in the jungle and was just incredible.
Absolutely loved SA – you’ll have an incredible time and it's very easy to pick up outdoorsy tourist info when you get there.0 -

Thanks for that, the swartberg pass sounds great. Will try and get up there if i can. Not looking forward to the baboons and leopards in Knysna, although could add to the thrill factor. will have to make sure i go in a group dont want to be the first mtb to get eaten by a leopard...haha !! BTW what is this coastering, never heard of it.0

Greeny 67, if I could give you a piece of advice, it would be to get on the SA forums and chat to the guys.
I did just that 3 months ago, and the guys were very keen to meet me and show me around. The locals know when you getting ripped off and know all the best routes and hire places.
Two forums that I found very useful, were:
www.mtbiker.co.za
www.thehubsa.co.za/
I posted one of my rides on my blog if you interested? http://www.totaltrainingsystems.co.uk/blog/0
