so it's running an online poll on cycling with questions so astoundingly biased it's hard to believe...

Q1, are you a member? yes of course, honest guv, and as a member i'm sure they care about my answers than those of people saying they're not

I don't think that one would pass any tests for objective social science

Shame, really, I always intended to take my IAM test to become a better driver. The attitude behind that survey puts me right off.

I guess someone from the IAM had a recent run in with a cyclist
  • Shame how the IAM doesn't consider cyclist safety is also a car driver issue as well.
  • i am not in favour of trying sway the issues on the poll so I filled it in correctly
fly like a mouse, run like a cushion be the small bookcase!
  • So far it's not anti-cyclist (http://www.iam.org.uk/iam_polls/). Most pollers aren't members, cycle regularly, strongly agree that more money should be spent on cycle safety and strongly disagree that cyclists should have to register or obtain a licence. However, there is a majority of people disagreeing that the police should....er, police the roads with a view to cyclists.

It doesn't look very statistically-sound either, but then again, neither am I 87.6% of the time.

I used to be a qualified IAM instructor (Police Advanced Driver). Could never be bothered with it all as I thought my local group were very sanctimonious so never renewed my membership.

Poll completed - in the measures to help cyclists I just put other and added "greater awareness of cyclists by motorised vehicle users".

We need to get this poll on as many bike sites as possible. Could be like the poll (which got ignored) to name the Wembley bridge after Scott Gibbs

I think greater awareness of cyclists by motorists is an important issue and that organisations like IAM have a leadership role to play in advancing it.

I had always assumed that they operated at a level above the bigotry and extremism shown by some petrol heads, minicab drivers and white van men, and seized upon all too readily by lazy newspaper columnists looking to capture what they assume to be the public mood with a bit of pithy lycra-bashing.

All road-users need to improve their skills further; membership bodies should start by advising their own members on how to do it.

    Poll competed honestly.

Nap D +100 You're not far from me so it's probably the same lot, My wife was in IAM for a while, they struck me as a bunch of social mavericks with some interesting views on driving and road use.

My Mrs scares me far more driving now than she ever did as a mere mortal.
