Warranty on a 2nd hand bike?

If I obtain the original receipt from the owner when buying a new bike can I still claim on the warranty? What information is actually required to file a claim? How would I go about claiming? Back to the original shop or with specialized directly? I am just wondering because I am buying a 2008 SX Trail and have heard about numerous cracked chainstays. Does anybody know whether the usual lifetime frame warranty from specialized is provided with the SX Trail?

Most warranty booklets will tell you that the warranty is only valid for the original owner.
Thats the official line however I'm sure you can discuss things with the seller. I have sold a couple of bikes and said I would deal with any warranty issues for them should they arrise.Niner Air 9 Rigid

Pretty sure the specialized warranty exludes chain and seat stays on full sussers but I may be wrong on that (I usually am).
I got nowhere with them when I snapped the chainstay on my stumpjumper fsr.http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/6933696372_603c9ce220_b.jpg
