Think you misunderstood. I meant that when in Cyclefit and you mention that you own a Cervelo they tend to look down their noses. This was my experience, when I was there having my feet checked, the last time I was allowed out.Pegoretti
Colnago
Cervelo

I've never had a problem with Cyclefit. Unfortunately for us, they work in one of the most expensive parts of London and their prices reflect that. It's probably like going to a car dealers on Park Lane or Piccadilly and thinking that I can that Merceded/BMW cheaper in Bolton. My experience with Cyclefit has always been v.positive both at the shop and when I've been away in Makjorca and Julian/Phil (the owners) were there. Of course it's all subjective.M.Rushton0

Ah gotcha now, thanks for the clarification.0 -
The Serotta, and then the Parlee Z5, have tickled my intrigue bone about custom carbon frames now, which come with good warranties, but I don't know anything abut the companies! From reviews I can see that Parlee is held in high regard. What about Crumpton? I can't find any decent reviews of the SL or Flahute anywhere - does anyone have any experience of these?
As a question, out of the following, which would you say was the most desirable custom carbon? ("desirable" being however you wish to define it)
Viner Maxima
Parlee Z5
Crumpton SL or Flahute
Are there any other rare(ish), high end, high quality custom carbons with lifetime warranties that I'm missing? I have to say I do prefer the timeless, clean looks of the Parlee/Crumptons over the over-styled Italians that may well look dated in two-three years.0 -
Go for the Maxima RS. Not only is the main triangle made from custom drawn tubes, but the rear triangle is too - making it 100% customExpertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

Monty Dog wrote:I think folks are attributing some comments to me about Cyclefit - I've visited popped in a few times to browse but not really a place I'd be inclined to buy because I can usually get a better deal elsewhere and don't feel the need to have a fitting consultation or pay their premium pricing. I know a few folks who have bought bikes / had fittings with variable results. I once rebuilt someone's Serotta from Cyclefit which had been assembled from components transferred from another bike with a disappointing lack of attention to detail which may prejudice my perception. Nice frame but nothing outstanding. On a related subject, if I was in the market for a Canadian bike I go for a Guru or an Argon 18 in comparison to an overpriced Taiwanese bike with a dodgy reputation.
If you are referring to Cervelo, then you are sadly mistaken...
The box for mine said Made in China...
On another subject, I can't wait to see LardLover's finished Parlee...0 -
To many Chinese, Taiwan is China...Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

What is the dodgy reputation BTW?0

made in taiwan is better than made in china.0

Taiwan bashing makes me laugh. Basically they can produce as good a carbon frame as anyone. Problem is the factories are simply just pawns in the manufacturers plan. Therefore you get a bike manufacturer (i.e. Specialized, Cervelo, Colnago, Bianchi, Trek e.t.c) that has certain demands for their desired product range. This might include getting a carbon framed bike to market at £1000 max. The frame will obviously be of less quality than your average £3000 Cervelo, Trek e.t.c. regardless of if it's made in the USA, France or by Time or Serotta. The Taiwanese are just building to order. They're making heaps of money out of it. They're not gonna turn around to Specialized and say 'no we're no going to build a cheap carbon frame because we'll get a bad reputation, we'll only make 3k frames'. They'll take the money and make the bikes. This myth that frames from Taiwan or even China are in some way inferior to their equals made in Europe is ridiculous. Bike's are what I would call pieces of 'pure engineering'. You need the best carbon to make the best carbon frame. The best carbon costs more so you pay more. You get what you pay for.
The funniest bit is that they're making all the money whilst all the 'snobs' are whining about 'cheap Taiwanese crap'. The simple fact is, if a new bike manufacturer started making 1.5-3k carbon bike frames on a mass scale in the UK tomorrow, no-one would buy them. We'd all stick to our Trek's, Colnago's and Cervelo's. The Taiwanese are the best in the world at mass producing carbon bike frames. Fact. Practise makes perfect and right now they're getting alot of practice making bikes.0 -
