I'm a bit disgusted that the editor thought this was suitable for print. I'm not a fan of Brown but attacking the man's tragic family history is just sickening:

I'm torn over that one... on the one hand, Brown said he would never bring his family into his politics and then, just when he needed to appear human the most...
On the other, we should all probably just ignore it, that cartoon is pretty taseless. But still not as tasteless as this little charmer from the Indy a few years ago

Anyone who allows an appearance on a "chat show" or a satirical cartoon sway their political allegience should not be allowed to vote in the first place.
Never mind though, that's the society we live in. One as shallow as a dining table side plate.Tail end Charlie

Equally you could say the normal voter doesnt watch The Andrew Marr show and co so this is really the only way to speak to some, even a majority, of voters.0 -
British caricature has always been savage - just look at the work of Gilray, Cruikshank and Hogarth from the 18th & 19th century.
The office where I work are just as cynical - when Brown was heard talking about his family, we all piped up "Is there a general election on the horizon?"Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

it was the estimated(showing 0.1% growth??!!) gdp figures that made me realize there will be one (election) before the accurate figures in april which will probably show static growth.Cotic Soul rider.0

Oh I know of Hogarth, though we're supposed to be in modern times, LOL.0 -
I didn't equate the Brown cartoon to his tragic loss, it is applicable to both people likely to be prime minister.0

I read it as not attacking the tragedy itself at all, more the fact he is suddenly prepared to give a waterworks interview a few months before a general election when he'd previously been adamant his private life would always be very private.0

Things change, people change. give the bloke a break, with a bit of luck he will be moving house and seeking gainful employment in a few months.0

Not toot tasteless, it appears to be based on Goya's 'Saturn devouring his son'."I hold it true, what'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost;
Than never to have loved at all."

Don't see anything offensive in that. I don't dislike Brown and my daughter actually played with his son when Alistair Darling's wife hosted a visit to Downing Street for kids with cancer. However, he said he would never use his family as props and then appears on a TV show that is blatantly aimed at giving him a positive perception by talking about his family tragedies. He can hardly avoid some barbed comments from satirists after such a display of hypocrisy. The cartoon isn't attacking the tragic family history, it is attacking him for using that history in a bid to become more popular.0 -

+1
Cartoon makes no reference to his family history - cartoon is ridiculing him using his family to win votesWant to know the Spen666 behind the posts?
