Which sub £2k frame?

Hi all, looking for some considered opinions if possible. I have new DA 7900 groupset, DA 7850cl wheels already.

I am considering a Giant TCR Advanced, Cervelo S1 (but really want carbon), S2, R3 (only afford if on offer though). Should I be looking elsewhere?

I am not a racer but I may use it in the odd duathlon, sportive and upcoming trip to the Alps. I am 5ft 10 and roughly 11st, fit but only been biking for 18 months or so. I want something that I won't be craving the next bike after 6 months as I won't have this money to spend again.

Thanks in advance.

    I'd get a 2009 S2. It's what I did and I freakin' love it!

Went out on it for the first time properly the other day and it was sublime.

    If a 57cm.....

I'm sure there are other EP, EC, or C50s under the £2000 if you look around, and that's where my money would be going.

    Sounds like your size!!

    Yep, I'd go for that!
  • S2 is amazing looking. Would an R3 be better for me as I love climbing?

Not considered Colnago but have liked the ones I have seen other people on. Is DA on a Colnago not just wrong though? Not that I would care that much though :)

DA is fine on a Colnago, Rabobank and Milram did DA+'Nago for years, so it's accepted. SRAM Red isn't though.

If you are considering Duathlon then an S2 would be poifick.

    However...

That Extreme Power is awaiting your purchase...
  • That Storck is very tasty

You could choose from a few different Storck's for your £2k budget.... It might be heresy - but I'd also suggest you put a Specialized Tarmac SL3 on your list too ... they've been getting very strong reviews and would be a good racing and sportive bike (in my opinion). I think they're Specialized's Cervelo R3 if you know what I mean (and cheaper of course given the volume differences) http://www.poshbikes.com is the place to check out the Storcks if you're interested.

  • If you are not fussed that it would be last years colour scheme you wont get much better than a Look 595

    http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/look-595 ... 15462.html url]

Leaves you 400 to buy some nice cockpit bits to finish it of .

If it fits, that is a very good price.

I'd still go for the Colnago though...
  • Thanks for the advice chaps. I managed to find an '08 Look 595 for just under £1k and that is new from a shop! I read some reviews and couldn't find any bad ones and at that price it was too good to miss.

Just missing a saddle and tyres but can't wait to get out on it. :D

    I went for both.

The correct answer...rigid and fast. Very reliable.
  • I too think that Giants are great - you wouldn't regret buying one.

But surely it'd be a Giant TCR Advanced SL for £2k?
  • I was just after a frame and the cheapest I could get the giant was £1350. The SL was too much for the 2010 version (£2.5k) and a lot of the older ones you see under £2k online are either sold or the wrong size.

The Look is a £2.5k frame, you don't see many about and I couldn't resist the bargain.
