Spring wear.... what should I get?

No sign of spring being in the air, or the sap rising just yet, but my trusty Aldi Cranes long sleeve jersey is looking even sadder now than when I first got it

Feel I need a bit of a makeover. What do you guys have for spring cycling wear? Do I need a long sleeve jersey, or are arm warmers better? Do I need a Gilet? I've got some leg warmers, half decent bib shorts, it's the top half I need to sort.

Spring = Long Sleeve jersey (w/o baselayer) or short sleeve jersey+arm warmers+vest/ssbaselayer+gilet with 3/4 shorts or normal shorts with knee warmers.

I find that having tonnes of kit is the way forward, I can just pick and choose depending on the conditions of the day

I have been eagerly eying the Assos Intermediate Evo L/S jersey for spring/autumn wear but the cost is pretty high.

I was also looking at their winter bib tights but cheaped out and bought DHB versions, and was very disappointed, so this time might learn the lesson and just buy the best first time round. I have yet to find a solution for the legs though as I only have shorts and now the warmer leggings, so might well be looking at knee warmers as well....

3/4 roubaix tights are best for spring - you can stick some leg warmers over the top if its nippy. Top-wise I still stick with long sleeves until about April and get a lightweight gilet with a mesh back.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

  • That is scary NapD! Before I saw the Darth Vadar pic, I was thinking along the lines of something Max Mosley would have worn on his days off!!!

Which Rapha do you have and what do you wear it with? The L/S Jersey looks smart and is cheaper than the Assos but doesnt look windproof?

I have a Gore Phantom jacket with zip-off sleeves that would make a pretty warm gillet but I still need a L/S jersey under it.

For early spring(if there is such a thing up here in Scotland) I wear the Assos Element one with a base layer and shorts with knee warmers, overshoes. As the mercury rises I leave out the base layer or switch to my Evo. And for summer mornings I fancy purchasing the new jersey from Assos. I like Assos by the way if you did not notice. Its expensive but worth it as it works well. Element one is a bit 'Paris to Berlin' though.

I had the Assos Gilet but did not get on well with it!
