Chain jamming on gear chain

On a few occasions I have experienced the chain jamming when moving from the big chain ring to the small chain ring. Relax the tension and the chain unjams and drops to the small ring. It is not clear to me why or where it is jamming. Any ideas?

    That is chain suck. The chain sticks on the big ring and gets carried round until it hits the chain stay and jams. Common causes are lack of lubricant, dirty chain and rings or worn chain and rings.

    Is the front mech bracket loose or is it misaligned?
