Going to hazard a guess at it being awfull im afraid
Haven't been for a few weeks as trying to let the trails settle a bit - what was nice singletrack seems to of been turned into a 5ft wide motorway mess over the winter wish they would organise some trail maintainance sessions!0 -
I have to agree with Hoochylala on this, and not just the conditions. There has been a significant deterioration in the quality of the red route over the last year since I first rode it and even after just a couple of wet days the lower sections hold water like a camel. I won't be attempting it for a while.1998 Marin Hawk Hill

Am I right that you mean sections have turned into a mire ...
And how many people ride that area in a week ?? More than 20 by the sounds of it and even if crews sorted the sections imo it would be a losing battle simply because of the weather conditions ,, which has been snow , rain , hard frost pretty much fuked up
They would need to close the place and need a good run of Dry weather for any maintainance to be successful simply putting more earth over saturated ground totally defeats the purpose .. ..
And how many people are willing to give up there free time such as yourself to help fix the sections ...
Very very few tbh .........0 -
went round the red route last night and it is fairly dry now. most of the trail is back open so it is worth a trip if you are thinking about it.0
-
is the red and blue routes fully open.
Also, I have not ridden either of these yet, but am fairly competent - how long do they take - my trip will be time limitedby the need to get back to pick my girl up from pre-school!0 -
Taken from the Sherwood Pines website in my sig;
"Half of the Kitchener trail is currently closed for forestry operations until 30/06/2010 at which time reconstruction of the damaged parts will start so it looks like it will be out of action for about a year. The closed sections have been replaced by diversions along fire road. The remaining open bits are so muddy they resemble a ploughed field several metres wide. The fallen tree that's been there for months has not yet been removed from one of the few remaining non-muddy open sections. The photo above was from the summer. It is now like this or worse for most of the remaining trail. If you were thinking of doing some off piste then the best bits are out of bounds and the bits on the other side of the railway have been churned up by motorbikes."
If the above wasn't the case, the red route (Kitchener trail) takes about 45mins to 1hr at a comfortable pace, and the blue I'm not sure - normally link it win with the red and other unmarked routes. Looks like you might want to give it a miss
Hmm looks like most of my weekend will be spent going to the Peaks, which isn't a bad thing!0 -
I was down there earlier. Blue route OK/dry some diversions due to forestary operations. Some machinery down there. I didnt have any probelms though. Spoke to a guy who had done the red, he didnt mention any problems.0

Red route is currently open bar the last lil bit back to the car park. No biggy tho.
All i can say after riding it on Sunday is MUD MUD MUD MUD MUD MUD MUD MUD MUD WATER WATER MUD WATER MUDDY WATER MUD ETC.....
Good fun still despite the lengthy cleaning of both bike and me!!!
Worth the effort for the beans on toast at the cafe! highly recommend it!Trek Remedy 9.8 20130 -

I don't think it's supposed to be open. The red tape and barriers have been moved to the side (by cyclists?) but there are still signposts all over the place with a map showing the area of closure and the dates.

Forestry Operations
Please note the Forest Park will be undergoing a wide programme of forestry work in the first part of 2010. This will affect trails and walks; reinstatement will commence once these have finished.
I can agree with the MUD MUD MUD MUD...0 -
I even took the trouble to ask at the bike shop if the trail was open prior TO RIDING (THAT AND I NEEDED SOME CHANGE FOR THE PARKING MORTGAGE (caps lock off) machine).Trek Remedy 9.8 20130

just been this morning.
From what I could tell, most of red and blue were open. Blue is fine, red very muddy in places, but rideable. not great fun in places though.
Had a great blast around, wished I could have stayed longer. Finished up at the bike park, but with no time to play. Next time.0 -
How about now? Fancy it today but there has been some s**t weather over the last few days. Great today though0
