Mind you, the IOC make the UCI look like choirboys.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
It's an old boys club isn't it? First Verbruggen and now McQuaid.
All nice and cosey.0 -
McQuaid's the guy who lost control of his sport to doping, who's introduced the failed Pro Tour and who only became head of the UCI after a scandal-plagued election with allegations of vote-fixing, bribery and cronyism.
...He's perfect for the IOC.0 -
Now he and Heiny can weave their special magic quite openly - sorry, I suddenly feel just a little bit sick... :roll:0

But before he took the top job at the UCI he was in charge of road cycling, heading up the relevant UCI commission. In his defence he has helped to globalise the sport but the UCI was long mocked for its anti-doping stance, see the numerous quotes from Dick Pound. Now Pound is a loud mouth but instances like the Vriijman Report raise genuine questions. The IOC should aim higher and go further in its search for competent officials.0 -
The way I see it, is Pat is between a rock and a hard place. If you tackle doping head on, you destroy cycling's commercial worth. To get rid of doping but keep himself and the UCI in a job is a difficult task.
But the UCI have made some really odd choices while Pat's been running it.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -

Indeed. Turn a blind eye, everything's rosy. Take action and races the size of the Tour of Germany get cancelled.0 -
That's because so much rubbish was swept under the carpet, once the likes of Jan Ullrich was busted large companies in Germany and beyond realised that doping was institutionalised, and tolerated by the UCI.
Anyway, doping is a hot topic. McQuaid messed up on the Pro Tour, it cost the UCI millions to develop the scheme only someone forgot to discuss it with the race organisers. On top of this we saw the Unibet team collapse after they were sold a licence only to discover they couldn't ride the races they were promised. It was slapdash admin from the UCI, a humiliation for McQuaid. Many others would have resigned or been sacked in disgrace.0 -
Does this mean he's no longer with the UCI ?The British Empire never died, it just moved to the Velodrome0
