Lee Quarry Conditions??

Hi,i haven't been up for a couple of weeks but it should be perfectly rideable,
i live a couple of miles down the road and there's no sign of any snow on the tops.
I'll be up there myself tomorrow, apparently some sections are closed off while they're working on the new stuff0 -
Same here, planning to go for a pootle around tomorrow, probably a bit muddy in places but should be ok.It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
did anyone go last weekend, what was it like? planning a trip on Sat?0
-
I was up there last saturday, quite muddy in places due to the work being
done expanding the trails but all perfectly rideable0 -
Trails are just fine now they have dried out really well, new sections are fine to ride now as well. Signage is a bit hit and miss at the moment though as we are still waiting for the new signs to arrive so just some temporary signs up at the moment.0
-
Great stuff,i'll give the new sections
a wizz tommorrow afternoon me thinks.0 -
was up there on sunday 90% of it is fine there were afew mudy bits were the diggers had been and the very top bit was in a bit of a state,, ground was still frozen though so it was ok..

I've been up this afternoon and the new stuff is really good, the new section added
just off the fire road climb flows really well with a black option on the route.
The trail overall is in a good condition, all the mud has been scraped away and the
very top section is fine now too.
The skills area is really goood, plenty of berms to practice on,different lines to try out,
plenty to keep you occupied.
I think they've done a really goood job at Lee Quarry and everyone involved deserves a
lot of credit.0 -
Glad you like it all the feedback we are getitng is very good. Signage is still temporary and I,m still trying to figure out where to put signs. especially around the skills area. Kinda hoping people will use common sense!
Mud has been scraped away on the top section so that's much better now.
Trails are still beding in but seem to be fine to ride now, berm line in particular is mighty fine!0 -
are these new sections just open?
Reason i ask is i was up there a few weeks ago for the first time so not sure if i did anything really new.0 -
New sections open as of a day or two ago, progress has been pretty quick we only started building them end of January, then snow and ice got in the way.0
-
I rode all the new stuff today and loved it! Conditions were nice and dry too!
I rode the full red loop twice and played around on the new stuff in the middle of the quarry on each lap. It really is a brilliant place to practice skills (berms, jumps, steps, drop-offs etc.) and if you want a longer ride you just do it two or three times. Simples.
I have to say that I feel I really had to work hard to cycle all the new sections. You have to keep cycling back up to the top but once there there a five paths down to the bottom to choose from (2 black, 3 red) all of which are fantastic. I don't mind working hard on my fitness but be prepared to work on those lungs and legs if you are going to try to cycle everything!
I just have to say a massive thanks to the people who have worked so hard to bring these trails to Lee Quarry for the public to use. I feel that the buzz about this place is really only just beginning and it will end up being one of the best trail centres in the country! Enjoy!!0 -
Sounds really good, must get up there to sample the new stuff, it's only a 10 min ride from my house and I haven't been up there since January. :oops:It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

I went up LQ last night it was blowing a gall and raining, but the new tracks look great, didn't get chance to ride them all though, as this stopped my fun!

Hi Guys, planning a trip to Lee Quarry on Monday. Never been before. I have the postcode for the Kingfisher Centre but was wondering where I go from there to get to the quarry? Is it signposted? Any help appreciated.0
-
Not well signposted but when you come into the Kingfisher carpark bear around to the right (big office building on your left), over the bridge and keep right. Park on the scrappy bit of land. The quarry is up the lane leading off from the right hand side of the carpark over by the houses. It starts off tarmac but rapidly becomes unsurfaced. When you get to the gates you're at the start of the trails.
Edit: more news and pics here. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Managed to get up there this morning and Loved all the new stuff, although we didn't have time to do all of it!
One of the new black bits was ace with big berms(Gisburn inspired?) and jumps.
there was a demo day there today(was this advertised anywhere?) with chances to ride yeti's, santa cruz, orange cannondale etc.
Can't wait to get back up there!
Are there any maps out there with the new stuff on? as the signage being temporary will not last long.0 -
hi i was up there this morning , fantastic place to session and learn new skills , as for the BIG berms i think rowan sorrel must have found some stronger drugs since he designed the gully at gisburn , its the next level up again0
-
Glad you liked it, signage is on order but it may be a littlewhile yet. I'll keep replacing the temporary signage as its needs doing.
Still waiting for the map from the graphic designer, I have a draft but its got los of errors on it so not really worth posting yet. Quarry isn't that big so just explore a bit and have fun! Lots of new stuff to discover!
Cragg Quarry will be ready to ride in a month or so!
Check out Eds blog on Singletrack for photo's of the new stuff.0 -
