Went to local bike shop for some advice on a new road bike for my price range (about £500) and he sugested a giant defy4.

Any thoughts on this bike would be a great help before i buy,

Thanks :?:

  • Solid enough bike, i went to buy one last year but due to waiting lists i got a free upgrade to the 3.5, (carbon forks and a colour change). I like it though and would recommend it to anyone. And as far as i can tell its a pretty good frame for upgrading.
  • +1
being a underpaid, overworked civil servant, my budget could only stretch to an 09 defy 3 (even with a quasi c2w loan)
for a born again biker, after a 17 year hiatus, the defy is a solid bike for the price and the frame is a solid foundation for future "staggered" bling
    :P
Just a bit of a shame that the '10 models are a bit below par when compared to the '09 (loss of carbon forks for the 4 and 3) and other corners cut, with a slight price hike to boot.
Still a good bike for the money.
Some of us can't throw thousand(s) at a bike y'know.....

You're the light wiping out my batteries; You're the cream in my airport coffee's.
  • Can you still buy '09' defy 3's? if so how much? :?:
  • Not sure where you live but Pedal On in Tadley had one when I was in there last weekend. M/L frame size, I can't remember the exact price, but around the same as a 2010 defy 3.5

  • Definitely go for the Defy 3.5 if you can't find a 2009 model. The frame and fork on the 3.5 is the same as last year's range topper and there is even a £1000 plus version in Holland. I do all my training on that frame and fork and I can't fault it.
  • Bought one of these as my first road bike 6 months ago. Its a great bike but heavy - Weight (lb/kg) 25.00/11.34 according to Giant's web page.
