Who Should Pay?

I've recently had a seat stay split on a titanium frame, this has been repaced under warranty (life time warranty), it was replaced with a slightly more expensive frame due to them having no stock of the frame that I had.

They want me to post the old (split) frame back to them, would I be right in thinking that they should be meeting the cost of this return postage?

Ideally yes they would pay postage. - but you do seem to come out ahead here !

Is it wise to squeeze a little more out of a company that have been true to there word and helped as they said they would ?

I think it's the least you could do considering you have a better frame? I wouldn't feel put out personally ...

You do seem to be a tad tight in this matter.

Not so much, the new frame has a different size seat tube to the old one, so I've had to fork out for a new seatpost and new front mech, an expense that I could have well done without at this time, I didn't ask for the upgrade and to be honest I'd have been happier if the old frame didn't split as I thought about buying this frame when I purchased the original but it has some design features which I wasn't too keen on, the main reason I agreed to this frame was because I thought that it would save me some money as the new version of my old frame needs a headset to be fitted rather than the intergrated headset on the original frame.
  • Maybe confront them and state that the replacement is not like for like, they may be willing to comensate you in some way for the new parts?

If they say no then what have you lost, think it'll probably be a customer service matter rather than a 'rights' issue. IMO

To be honest, if I hadn't just bought and built up an mtb frame from this company, I would have had some ready money, and wouldn't have been too bothered about paying to send the frame back, it's just that I went overboard in building the mtb and I'm well spent up, then with having to buy the new post and mech, I'm well streched.

I guess I'll just e-mail them expain the circ's and see what they say.

You could just tell them that you'll wait for stock to arrive...

Sending the frame 'recorded, signed for' would cost £8.97, up to 4kg's....

Could do but I've already got the replacement frame, which I did mention in my first post.

seems cheap for recorded delivery, though by the time the frame is all boxed up I would imagine that it's going to weigh more than 4kg, though most of that will be the weight of the packaging.

Well lots of worry over nothing, I've contacted them and they are going to arrange collection at, I assume, their expense as there was no mention of cost to me in their e-mail :D

That really is a weight off my mind, as however it might have appeared in my first post on the matter I'm not tight or mercenary and really do like to ensure that anyone I do business with is happy.

The moral of the story...........don't spend big money on an MTB !
  • ..... And if a company sends you a replacement and doesnt pick the old one up don't worry about how to get the 'old' one back, i wouldn't even have called them, if they can't be arsed to sort it out then i can't be @rsed to send their frame back

Does it need much packaging ? Are they going to fix it or scrap it anyway ? Bubble wrap it I'd reckon.

I've got the box that they sent the new frame in, I was going to use that, I want to make sure that it doesn't suffer any damage in transit as they are sending it back to their manufacturers, as I suspect they'll be wanting a refund.
  • Doubt it, probably be looked at by quality control then skipped....
