I've used all the 'kings' from Conti and don't rate them from everything else I've tried, the more expensive supersonic / protection ones I found pretty decent though. But still wouldn't swap a sauserwind xc tyre.

YMMV with the Michelin XC Dry 2, depends how heavy and wet the xc, they are a dry weather tyre after all, not that that stops them being good in the wet, just have limits (like the xc hard terrain). I'd look at the XC All Terrain, only had them on for two short rides over the usual xc loop but they road roll decent enough and bite where needed, so far.
  • Ok i'll have a look at the those too.

ive read a few reviews and although they rate the continental's they do say they suffer quiet bad from punctures did u find this?? also the that the grip isnt consistant on the michelins but they are better protected against punctures??

I found the standard 'kings' bad for punctures, they have lousy grip that wears in comparison to everything else I've tried . I've had way better wire tyres. Can only comment on the Michelin xc hard terrain and I've no problems with punctures on the road or elsewhere. Most of the Michelin range are standard 60ish TPI, I think, so not overly beefed up in comparison to other xc tyres. But if you want an xc tyre that offers some puncture protection and a beefed up carcass - and lightweight, then the sauserwind controls have my vote.

I would just like to say I use Conti tires with no problems. I've got a pair of Race King Supersonics and they are just as good if not better than the Racing Ralph tires I have.

I still use Conti tyres without problem, just not the standard 'kings'

And if they made a folding version of the Traffic it would probably be my default tyre for most of the year.
  • The saucerwind controls are a little over my budget at £22 per tyre as the dry 2, speed kings and XC all terrain i can get for £25 a pair!!

which is why I went with the xc All Terrains as back up tyre. because these past few months I was having to do too much road on the sauserwinds and they do wear if you over do it. It's all 'orses for courses - init.

you don't 'find' the 'rolling speed' it's not something that's documented but if you look at the tread (and the middle of the tread in particular) you can tell what's aimed at rolling well and what's meant to grip and bite ahead of rolling and what's meant to do a bit of both. You can see the difference between a slick - semi slick - full tread, just apply the same logic and you'll be in the right ball park.

Much of this depends on where your riding and conditions. The 'XC All Terrain' are precisely that and named so. The 'XC Dry 2' not only look different but are named differently. ;)

....and get both at that price. ;)

    Good spot, Andy.

I thought that would have been where the OP saw them.

I bought a pair of XC AT from On One - great value tyre. Works very well in damp / muddy conditions. Haven't had any dry conditions recently, so can't comment on dry performance. However I have had no problems on the roads & they seem to roll well.

    I will buy them again.

Good to know, FSR_XC. My first impressions are pretty much the same, seem to road roll pretty well, shed mud well and grip, seems to be a nice balance for price. Casing might not be the toughest so we'll suck it and see on the puncture side, but for that money you ain't having it all.
  • being a big lad i decided to go for the michelin mountain dry 2 in the slightly wider 2.15 :D:D

got a good deal on a pair from CRC

  • well fitted my new michelin mountain dry's earlier and went for a quick blast on my local trails and im really impressed, the michelins are so much faster rolling than my old chunky kenda's so much so i dint do alot of pedalling lol quite impressed with the grip too given there designed for dry trails. looking forward to pushing them in the drier weather to see how well they perform.

deffinetly reccomend these to any1 looking for grippy FAST rolling tyres....
