Good or bad please, they will be lighter than my current near 2kg setup and I'm about 68kg, commuting reasonable quality roads but in all crappy weathers, round about 3500-4000 miles a year. Seem to be the best value for what they are...

If they are anything like the RS20's avoid.

I have a pair on my winter bike. The bearings needed adjusting out of the box, but that's not a fault obviously, and I've run them for two winter seasons, with 25mm's on, with no problems. I am (ahem) much heavier than you.

seems from the reviews that they are good wheels, unless you get caught out with broken spokes. I've never ever broken a spoke and they are too good value to overlook. Handbuilts win for me, but aren't an option at this price, so think I'll have a gamble on them
  • Shimano R500 are cheaper (£65!) and use normal j-bend spokes, so are much more serviceable too. Fine for trashing over winter.

I have a general rule that I can't buy something for my bike that isn't better than what I am replacing. As they aren't any lighter and I currently have Shimano hubs anyway, i'd have to pass on these

Have them on the Kiron as winter wheels. Just had broken spokes on the rear which are a pain for the distributor to get hold of, so order a set of LH and RH as spares just in case the problem persists.

No issues, fast bearings for the money.

  • good thinking - should I just get my LBS to order them or should I contact Madison direct?
  • Had RS10's through last year and the freehub thingy went after not that many miles (ie when pedalling the cranks would go round but the cassette would just spin and not turn the wheels). For the weight and relative cost i would avoid, probably would go for some planet x model b's at that level. (or some bargains of ebay  )

Obviously this is just my experience on just 1 set of these wheels so could have been bad luck but still i'm only a lightweight and they broke  :(

did you send them back and ask for a refund? If they don't last a reasonable time, that's what I'll do!

R500 - spoke snap after a month. Wheel went out of alignment before then. 20 and 24 spokes.
RS10 - no snapped spokes. 20 and 18 spokes. They roll better and less chance of water intake.
The RS10 flex more but still running perfectly true.

According to BR review, they have similar hubs.

I go for the RS10 over the R500. They appear to be better quality. If i was buying again i get better, such as the RS20. RS10 is too economical for punishing Winters and flex too much.

I have them on my one and only bike. Run them for 18 months / 2 winters on 25mm tyres, still completely true, spoke tension still very even, hubs / freehub still spot-on.

I did service the front hub after a year out of curiosity rather than neccessity; it was still pristine inside, so I haven't taken the rear apart yet.

Fortunately I have never snapped a spoke

I weigh 70kg if that matters.

I got the LBS to get the spokes in as they had to for the replacement anyway. It took nearly 3 months!!!!

Came with a bike a bought second hand but the wheels were brand new, couldn't be arsed to do anything about it as there's nothing special about them anyway. My mates R500's seem exactly the same

apparently the supply problem has been sorted now, anyhow, I've ordered 'em so will see how I get on.

Why even ask for peoples opinions then :? Also with tyres and tubes they will come in over 2kg as well

Because I did a bit of research, took these comments into account and then ordered them, a good 4 hours or so after the first post. Also not sure of relevance of adding tyre and tube weights, all wheel weights are without tyres and tubes...
  • You mentioned 'near 2kg set-up' so wasn't sure if you meant that that included QR'S rim tape tubes and tyres. No need to get defensive :)

Anyhoo, let us know what you think, just curious to see if you notice a difference with your current wheels :D

Ah, I'm with you, no sadly my current alex 450s on deore front and tiagra tip the scale at 1950g approx, plus skewers, tubes, tape and tyres. Its been a good work out at least! Actually the drop from Bonty XXX Race Light 32s to Conti GP 4 season 25s halved the tyre weight, which will be more of a weight saving than I'll get through these wheels!
