Hi
I have around £250 to spend upgrading my wheels. I have a 2005 Specialized Epic and mainly do XC (Dalby, Glentress, occassional Peaks) - What would you recommend as the best I can get for the money and should I go for sealed cartridge bearings?
Many thanks for your help.

Hope Hoops would probably be the most popular option at that price:

but there are lots of alternatives...0 -
yer id go hope hoops or maybe some superstar hubs on stans rims0

Yeah I have been looking at Hope Pro 2s - it is just a minefield with the number of rim/hub options. What is the general opinion on the Superstar wheels? The XC superlegerra ones are same price as Hope so not sure they would add anything.
Have also looked at the DT Swiss 240 hubs or the entry level Fulcrum 5s.0 -

They quoted me this for a custom build:Superleggera/superfast hubs
Sapim Race black(DB 2.0, 1.8, 2.0)
Brass nipples
Stans alpine black (available in march 2010)
£263
XC 717 disc black rims -£8 per wheelset
CX ray spokes +£60 per wheelset
Gold or red alloy nipples +£10 per wheelset
Lighter superleggera Ti hub +£30 per wheelset
That's going to be lighter than the Hopes, but there's much less user feedback available...0 -
the dts are very good but expensive and the fulcrums are pretty good but not that light0

Has anyone run the superstar wheels? I'm tempted by the price but usually there is a good reason for something being cheap?0
