I recently acquired an 05 Sirrus Pro Disc from a friend who is emigrating to the USA. As he did not have the time to give it a refresh and sell it, he gave it to me for a mates-rate price. The bike as only covered around 300 miles in total, and has been stored at the back of a garage for the last 3 years gathering dust.

Its now been completely stripped and rebuilt ( including the wheels, hubs and calipers).

Any parts that were looking a bit grubby or worn were replaced, and has been done on a like for like basis or upgraded where it was not possible to get the originals. New parts include - brake pads, pistons, tires, tubes, cables, headset, seat post, front derailleur, spd pedals.

The over all condition is very good, and it rides like its new. My friend said he paid £1000 for it in 2005, so can anyone give some me estimates of what its current worth might be?

Thanks

Charlie.

have a look on ebay and see what they go for

a 5-year old hybrid, even in mint condition, is not going to have a massive market though. My guess would be 350ish tops but who knows. You'd get more in total if you split it up I suspect. That's what I usually do when I'm selling a bike.

Try it in the classifieds and see if anyone bites.

    Thanks for your response.
I have been keeping an eye on ebay to see if any pop up, but so far there has been none that are a very comparable.
I'm still undecided on what to do with it, still trying to work out if its worth selling, and i really dont know much about market for these types of bikes.
I currently don't do road riding, but i'm thinking it might be worth keeping as my other bikes are full suspension rigs, and some road sessions would be a great boost for my off-road riding.

Anyone else with some input ?
  • I think Maddog estimate is accurate.

300-350 if it's in really good nick... no rusty bits, smooth cable action (especially brakes), no BB or headset issues, no squeeks and creaks, no buckled wheels or worn out tyres.

Because of the cycle to work scheme the second hand market for commuters is not thriving and I suspect it will be difficult to get that kind of money

Good point, i had not considered the effect on the market due to the cycle to work scheme.
