  • I very much enjoyed the Rumble last year

I emailed the organisers a month ago and they advised that the event would be on 8th August

They were hoping to have entries go live at the end of January but looks like it has been delayed

    Hi All

Yes the Ryedale Rumble is being held on the 8th August.

Same routes as last year, the landslip works over Bransdale have yet to start and the road is still "officially closed" so we'll again use the extended Glaisdale Loop instead.

We are waiting for BC's new website to go live as that carries the online entry system. The latest roll out date for that is the 15th February and we hope to have the Rumble ready to open the following week.

    Glaisdale....oh the joy!

Good to know it's on...I'll be there again for sure. Here's hoping for a cracker of a time this year, 2 punctures did me in 2009!

    It's a proper day out!

BobH - are you planning to run the White Rose Classic rides from Hawes again this year as well as the Rumble?

Postal entries are now open for the Ryedale Rumble and an entry form can be downloaded from http://www.ryedalerumble.co.uk. We've a bit of a delay on the online entry system but that should be up and running by the end of the month. Sorry to have kept you waiting with this but we've had a few logistical changes to incorporate before we launched.

  • Thanks Bob

It was a brilliant event last year.

Glad to see Glaisdale is in again. The views from the top of there are stunning and well worth the effort of getting there!!

  • Some interesting discussion on the Rumble here, particularly HarryB's treatise on the day.

    Well worth a read.

Cannot make it this year due to being on Holiday, but an utterly brill event, and a super challenge!

Want to read of a wee RR reccy we did a couple of years ago? :-

Also suggested Caper Hill to BobH last year after near dying on it! I reckon thats the toughest climb in all of Yorkshire!

You can read of my complacent attitude towards the beast here:-

You can see all the gradients / profiles for all major hills associated with the RR here (just finished these):-

    Just filter out 'North East;

I hate you Rich, Bl**dy Caper hill and the eastern section. If I could just go straight from Blackey down to Rosedale it'd be great or even turn right at the top of Caper hill to Rosedale (that would be a good rumble 2 ) but those hills in betwean, not to metion the road surface in the forest just kill me.
    No pleasing some people

just reread the recci ride article again. That really was a ride to remember. And as I predicted it would be Nunnington which caught people out. Didn't think it would be me though, it really is a killer that near the finish.

I wish the second route was a bit longer on the Rumble. I think it would make a good option for the middle distance to head towards Castleton from the top of Blakey, but turn right at Ralphs Cross and drop down to Rosedale for the Chimney climb. It would give the middle distance riders that chance to ride one to the best known climbs in the country.

I would love to do the long route and have a go at the Chimney but the long eastern leg is just beyond my capabilities.

I thought that Caper Hill was the hardest climb on the sportive last year. I did not really study the route before and did not know that there was quite a distance between Caper and the Chimney and slowed up on the Roman Road as I thought that the Chimney was going to be soon.

Its a hard day out though but it was very quiet on the big route after Blakey and felt like I was training on my own. Its a cracking run event but if I have one small niggle is that there should be more route markers just to let you know your still on the right road.
