Garmin-Slipstream switched from the Edge 705 to the new Edge 500 - it's smaller, without the mapping, but still includes GPS for tracking - so yuo can download everything as per a 705.

Apparently developed in conjuction with Garmin-Slipstream riders and their feedback.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a few more teams using it - the blue matches the Dogmas nicely too!!

The SRM is better looking in the flesh but it isn't a bike computer, it's the control centre for the power cranks. If you use/see one it's a triumph of function and form. It's v.intuitive but what it isn't is a cycle/gps computer.

Hi all been searching hi and low to find out what bike computers Team Sky are using. Seen them on the 1st stage of Qatar. I think also Lance uses the same one. I have a Garmin 705 but am looking for something more basic as I don't ever use the gps. Sorry I can't link any photos, am having to use my mobile to post this as my PC has decided not to boot.

    Thanks in advance

wouldn't it make more sense to select a computer based on the features you need - rather than choosing one because it happens to be used by Team Sky...?

My 605 lasts for ages, I only charge it every couple of weeks. I would not think the 705 would use much more power.

Deffo should last longer, I mean on 5 hour+ rides mine has loads of battery life left!

Ok thanks Will. Think I will flog it on eBay then. Had it for a year and it has always been the same. Bought it for £110 so can't complain. Think I might try a Polar watch style next. I go to the gym and run before or after every bike ride so would be handy for calorie counting etc

Why not just speak to Garmin and send it in to them. I've had to send back 2 units in the past and both have been replaced with new ones free of charge. I didn't have to provide any receipt either. Their customer service is very good, you should get it back within a week.
My 705 lasts 15 hours easily, so yours definitely sounds faulty.

Sky wanted to use the Edge 500, but JV put an end to that!
  • NIce.

Doesn't work right - so sell it.

    Glad I wasn't the buyer.

Presumably the original seller thought the same thing which is why it was £110. :(

Wasn't going to buy one just because it was used by Team Sky, just saw it on their bikes and thought it looked good. If I was going to buy anything just because it was used by a team then I would pick my favourite team. Team Endura Racing ftw

I got my 705 as an eBay bargain, didn't know what I needed at the time. I now know I don't need gps and I really need longer battery life. Even with the gps switched off I can barely get past the 6 hour mark, I need 8 hours

My 705 lasts much longer than 6 hours. In fact I've done a 6hr and a 5 hour a week later on the same charge.

My 705 lasts over 14 hours easily.
Used it all day long for a weeks skiing and only charged it twice.
A bit less when the backlight is used obviously.
