Hi people. I should be in a position to get some Hope Hoops in the next few weeks but I'm a bit unsure on which combo to go for. They are to replace my Mavic XM719's on XT hubs which have been very good apart from the rear hub  The rim has been spot on with a perfect combination of strength and weight for my style/type of riding.

So far i'm thinking along the lines of Stans ZTR Flow, but is it worth the extra getting the straight pull hubs (which would also need new disks). Also not sure if I should go for the 12mm bolt through on the rear seen as my frame came with the dropouts for it.

Any advice would be good. I would also be happy to consider any alternatives but I am limited to Halfords only as it's through the C to W scheme and they must have cartridge bearings.

Thanks

what kind of riding do you do? and what bike is it?

regarding the rear axle type. i guess the bolt through will be stiffer than qr so if you notice any flexing in the rear then yes it might help. otherwise stick to qr.
  • Well I would say I ride all mountain/XC and weigh 10st + baggage etc..
The bike is the Meta in my sig. I can't say I have noticed any flex on it particularly but sometimes wonder if a 12mm would sharpen the handling up drastically or something?

I would prob go for ZTR Flows for your use. I also hear that hope are planning to release the new version of these rims the Arch but no idea on date.

I can't help any more with the rear axle though, i've only ever used QR.

I think Hope Pro 2 SP are standard 6 bolt disk mount so no need for new rotas :D

Unfortunately the C to W is only open for this month then again near the end of the year. Like the look of the Flows but not many reviews on then yet.

Ha yes your right, I just had another look on the hope site and they do both. So are they better or not?

How are you managing to buy wheel through the Cycle to Work Scheme? Or have I misunderstood your post?

Safety items are the only additional items you can purchase along with a full bike. Some more understanding bike shops will help you to some extent (I managed to pick up some pedals as an accessory, my argument being that the stock ones were bloody dangerous so technically the new ones were a safety item  )

But, wheel's are a long shot from that category, and in any event you would be hard pushed to get halfords to bend any rules (for good reason). The best you could hope for is a spotty teenager who doesn't know how the system works and puts it through anyway.

I was told by Halfords that the vouchers can be used for either bikes or bike equipment so purchasing just a set of wheels falls under the scheme.
I will also be telling work I want them to save space at home by being able to swap my wheels from off road to road wheels because I don't have the room for 2 bikes  .
