Rode this last year. 1st class class route and organisation. The closed road start with motorbike outriders, (which with 300+ riders) was just awesome!
The route, including Holme Moss (that really hurt) was well planned, with plenty off high speed descents to recover from the climbing. A good charity event, with Brian Robinson putting his name to the event, and proceeds going to charities, including the Dave Rayner fund and also the Prostate UK cancer charity.
If you're gonna suffer, why not do it in a good cause!!!

I'm interested.
However, not the best publicised event, took me & Google a while to find any details
Sunday 25th April
Some details and entry at https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?e ... ent_id=3210 -
With just 6 weeks before the event numbers are surpringly low.
Langsett has asked me to try and promote the event as much as possible.
Here is a quote from Bolty:-
''The Brian Robinson Challenge Ride is a fairly testing early season ride , aimed
at offering an opportunity for riders to assess their fitness before the longer,
and possibly tougher sportives such as the Fred Whitton or Etape du Dales.
https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?event_id=321
It features many of the roads which Brian himself trained on over the years it
has 2 well stocked feeder stations and the benefit of a closed road at the start
to get riders under way. On course directional marshalling is provided by
Advanced Motorcyclists, and on course mechanical support by Trycycling of
Huddersfield
This year the main charities benefiting are Prostate UK and the Dave Rayner Fund
of which Brian is President, we are hoping Brian will once again be at the event
Last year we had 400 riders, we can cope with a few more but it is not the
intention for this to be a massive event , well not this year anyway.
So if you know anyone who would enjoy a pleasant but challenging ride we look
forward to their entry and seeing them in April''
I've ridden this for the last two years and it's awesome. The Police escort is particularly cool and the road is closed off for the first mile to allow the peloton to get going.
I think the limit will again be 400 but will probably be increased should there be an influx of entries.
Look forward to seeing you all there.

I did this one last year, I'd recommend it , excellent organisation (and good weather). Mass start at 0900 from Huddersfield Rugby Club, with police escort to start, everybody very civilised , patient until the first climb then everybody settled into their own pace, and that stretched out the field.
Having out-riders at each junction gave piece of mind that you were on the right route, and not wondering whether you said have taken that left turn 5km back.
Have entered again this year, strange the low entry numbers this year, perhaps would help if it was better advertised on various other sites (ie. cyclosport.org)
Not in very good shape this year compared with last, should be ok though, just a slower time.0 -
I forgot the mentioned how good the Flapjack is too!! It's awesome; well worth the entry fee alone.0
-
Would agree that this is a really excellent event and I would highly recommend it.0
-
Have you entered again this year, Matthew? - Be great of the weather was similar to have it is this morning - glorious!0
-
I've not, as I'm away with work that weekend, although I'm trying to change this. Last year I just thought it was such a well organised event. The mass start was very good, the marshalling was first class and the route was great. I seem to remember the weather was excellent as well. I hope this year you have similar luck.0

I'm going! As long as this nerve issue in my leg gets sorted out in time. Will be In Giant kit on a TCR with Di2. Not over the top at all then!0

Quote from Bolty:-
Dear Fellow Cyclist
I hope as the weather improves you are finally getting some welcome miles in?
In order to allow personalised frame numbers and completion certificates to be
ready we are going to close entries for this years BRCR on 7th April, I will
try and modify the entry site https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?event_id=321
to reflect this.
The event will once again be based at the Huddersfield Rugby club and the route
remains unchanged from last year.
We have again got the invaluable support of the Police, Highways Authority and
Metro in agreeing a temporary closure of the roads to allow riders to start en
mass once again, and I know this is much appreciated and enjoyed by riders, as
the sound of over 400 cleats engaging fills the air!
This year the main beneficiaries will be Prostate UK and the Dave Rayner Fund,
both worthy causes I am sure you will agree.
All the best

Go for it guys!
It's a good challenging route and if I was fitter and not skint then I'd be entering again this year but I'm not and I am so I won't be!0 -

in 2009 , did
Cheshire Cat
Brian Robinson
Spud Riley
Dave Lloyd midi
Cumberland challenge
Rourkie's Cat And fiddle
Tour Of The Peak
brian robinson ride was ... best weather .. and piece of mind with route signage/marshalling ... very well organised ... mass start ...
seems strange how the cheshire cat attracts so many, as opposed to the this event covering the roads that a proven TDF rider used for training ?0 -
Come on folks - there are still places for about 150 more riders!
I've now entered and if an overweight guy in his mid-fifties can do it (plus another 35 miles and 1,300 ft of climbing there-and-back) then you certainly can!
I was about 5th from last in 2009 so there is definitely plenty of room for improvement!0 -
Just entered, as I only became a 'local' last week it would be rude of me not too! It'll be my first ride on those roads having been Northampton based for the last 10 years! Hope the weather is as it's been this weekend! You'll see me struggling at the back.....0

good look guys ,just be careful of the nasty pothole between the top of scammonden and the first reservoir down towards denshaw, stick to the left hand side of the road .0

What a fantastic event!
Mass roll-out and no signs to follow, just directions from a brilliant bunch of motorcycle marshals. Even the heavy rain kicking in on the descent off Saddleworth Moor didn't spoil my day.
Big thanks to all involved in the organisation of this ride, can't recommend it enough.
V tough though, found it much tougher than the Lakeland Loop a couple of weeks ago. Lots of long relentless climbs and wonderful sweeping descents. Cant remember any flat bits at all.......0 -

Seconded!
What a charming gent Mr Brian Robinson is - a great honour to receive my certificate from him.
Now if only I could ride faster I would avoid that rain.0 -
Cant remember any flat bits at all.......
The bit from the start line to the main road was flat.0 -
What a great ride yesterday. Seconded the bits about lack of flat roads! I cycle all round the area each week with the club and I dind't know that many hills existed!
About 25 miles from the end when both my legs cramped up was the point I really wondered why I had paid to do something like this!
Superb marshalling at every junction. An excellent event all round.
I was quite pleased with my time (finished at 2:03pm) and was in the top 50 I think but there were some really fast guys out there. Apparently the first back was at about 1:10pm!!!
How did everyone else do?0 -
agreed, superb event. really well organised, strange how it isnt booked up solid, perhaps not so well advertised?
did it last year, probs my favourite out of the 6 sportives I entered (Cheshire Cat/Spud/Dave Lloyd midi/Cumberland Challenge/Tour Of The Peak).
Got round in 5.44 , about the same as last year, narrowingly missing out on silver I think. Satisfied though, am carrying 9-10lbs extra and less training than this time last year.
Brian shook hands and thanked us for taking part and hoped we'd enjoyed the ride. Nice touch.
Does anybody know the offical amount of ascent for the ride?
And are the 'results' published? (not a race, but nice to know)
Credit to the organsiers and all the riders who took part.

We had a nice ride round and even the rain descending back into Meltham couldn't spoil the day. Thanks to eveyone who's wheel I followed.
Thanks again to the organisers.
Had a look on Memory map this morning and it worked out at about 9440 ft of climbing and 75 miles...though I clocked 78 yesterday.3 grand bike...30 Bob legs....Slowing with style0 -
I made it about 2150m of climbing, suprised wasn't more....[/quote]0

Hello
Fantastic ride
Brilliantly organised with great, friendly marshalling.
Mr Robinson was there before 7am....I arrived really early and only realised at the start that it was him who had directed me into the car park! Fantastic that he was there - what a great guy.
I agree, there certainly didn't seem to be any flat bits. I'm sure the first part was uphill on the way out and on the return!? Holme Moss didn't seem too bad but the back straight along Saddleworth Moor... Thanks to all the guys whose wheel I jumped on, where were you on the moor!?
I made it back by 2:24 so got a silver time, which I was really happy with. I was even happier that I managed to avoid the rain, just as i'd loaded the bike up the heavens opened. Well done guys/gals who rode in that, the road seemed to turn into a lake within minutes.
Thank you to all involved for a great day out, it's certainly in the diary for next year
