ticking/clicking noise from pedals/BB

Out on Sunday I got a clicking/ticking noise from the pedals/BB.

It disappeared after about half an hour. Any suggestions as to what to do.... or what it might be.

Can I service the BB easily enough myself or do I need any special tools. Or is there some lube/grease I can simply spray on?
