I have just purchased a 705 and would like to set up some routes on my PC and transfer to my Garmin. Which is the best map system to use? A Colleague has Memory  Map and it appears to be fairly good.
Thanks

  • Personally I prefer Tracklogs.

Some people like to use some of the free web based solutions.

I use Garmin City Navigator Europe 2010
Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!
  • OpenStreetMap for me.

    Free, legal and bloody brilliant.

Why on earth anyone would pay the stupid amounts of money some people want for maps is beyond me.

    Trek 1.5 (2009)
    Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp (2007)
  • BikerouteToaster (used it, it's good)
    Bikely (Comes highly recommended)
    Someone also mentioned GPSies

Hopper. What details are shown in City Navigator? I am looking for O S type maps covering rural areas-Lincs. for example not just 'towns'.
    Thanks
  • You won't get OS type maps displayed on your Edge, you can get topographical info for off-roady type stuff or the city navigator which shows the roads&lanes. Don't be confused by the city tag on navigator it's all the roads and lanes, not just the cities.

If want 'proper' OS, memory map do their own device.

The name is misleading. It's not just for built up areas, although it does contain residential roads. It's essentially all public roads (like an Ordnance Survey map on your 705).

Only without all the Ordinance Survey information....
