Is it worth the £4 a month? I watch most of my cycling in work, so would be happy to pay if it was a lot better than the usual justin.tv streams (and indeed with synced English commentary!).

Anyone run it on a Mac? If so, is is resizeable in a Quicktime player?

Cheers

Cal

I used it to watch the tour last year, and after a few teething issues (they had massive demand - so it sucked for the first week) it was actually pretty good.

I'll be resubscribing for the tour this year, that's for sure. I used a mac btw (MacBook) for viewing the Eurosport Player HD stream.

I thought it didn't work on a mac because it used Windows Media Player (unless you use virtualisation or boot-camp).

    Thanks guys

flip4mac(?) converts windows streams to Quicktime apparently so should be OK

Well, it's great for reliability. Maybe not worth £4 a month. I payed for the Giro and Tour. Any other races I just found dodgy streams. The picture quality isn't much different if you have a dodgy stream or Eurosport player.

What do you do for a living that allows you to watch tv at work?

Because I’m self-employed, but if I caught myself watching the Tour of Romandie I’d have to take myself outside and give me a right b0llocking

Philps - cheers for the link... I had already read it and still can't get Europlayer to work.

Ju5t1n - I'll only be watching in the evenings... so I'm hoping there will be facility to watch the race after it has finished (like the archive on BBC iplayer) - do you know if that is the case?
  • In order:-
Calv - I think it's well worth it, I can't afford a full Sky package, but I'd only really watch Eurosport on it anyway. I don't use it on a Mac, and I have had problems now and again but I think it's good value for money, especially with the increase in coverage by Eurosport.

Doobz - I've just noticed we have a very similar sig line, what a coincidence :)

ju5t1n - I'm a student, so have time on my hands, but after my finals I'm looking into becoming a freelance translator. It's surprising the number of people nowadays who don't work 9 to 5, but then that's a sociological discussion for another day lol

Is anyone using eurosport player right now? I registered last night so I can watch the giro, but I can't logon (just a get a cryptic error message). I've contacted tech support, but guess I won't get any help until Monday.

BTW, I am also on the mac (but still experience this problem on Windows). I have got the test video running via Flip4Mac and Quicktime - it is resizeable and seems to run well.

It's working for me at the moment. I'm using a PC though.

I had the same issue. I clicked the reset password link and it's worked with the new password.

Thanks phreak - solved the problem (dubious eurosport tech infrastructure...)

Hmmm. It says 'invalid e-mail address' when I try that. My address is fine through, as I have received my receipt...

That's interesting, going to see the Tour this year and that would be really handy to follow what's happening whilst stood by the side of the road. Wonder if it would work abroad?

I have the exact same problem(s), and have also contacted the support - still waiting for an answer.
I'm using Windows 7 and have tried using both Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox, but still no luck.

Yes, but you only get Eurosport 1 IIRC, so you may miss a bunch of stuff. ATM, there is a bonus channel on the Eurosport player with 5 hours a day coverage of the Giro. I run an HDMI out from my graphics card to the tv, if that helps & most LCD screen support VGA or DVI in too.
WRT to the player not working properly, once you have contacted support, they'll freeze your account & change the password so they can test & get back to you with a new password & say everything is fine.
If you get that message, just waiting a wee while, then trying again seems to be the best all round option....

I don't think it does, for the reason that it will cost you a fortune to stream. Even if you've got unlimited internet, you will easily go over your fair usage limit, and then IIRC it's £3/mb from Europe

Well, good to know that we're in this together! I haven't had a reply yet (depsite their website claiming they would reply within 48 hours). Hopefully they'll get it sorted before the Giro get too interesting!

It's working for me now! The tech support changed my password for me, and then it worked just fine. I hope they'll respond to you soon as well :)

It sadly isn't the case for their cycling coverage. But there are usually 2 screenings of highlights every evening (times vary) plus sometime one the next morning.

Re: the post above - please disregard.

I've just seen they're putting Video On Demand Giro stages up - albeit with no commentary.

My login has also been reset and all is now working fine. I can't see the video embedded in the website (a known issue with Mac browsers and this WMV stream) but I can stream it through Quicktime with the Flip4Mac plug-in, so all is good. I watched tonight's highlights relatively glitch-free. Not especially impressed with the quality (not a patch on iPlayer, let alone iPlayer HD) but good for only £3.99 for the month.
