Chainstay protector?

Are these really important? I've misplaced mine whilst cleaning the bike. :oops:

  • I'd not like to go very far without mine.

    Your bike is not going to fall apart without it, but your chainstay is going to get REALLY badly chipped REALLY quickly.

    You can just use an old innertube though, ziptie it on, works just as well as any chainstay protector does.

    tube and zip ties works very well. Can look fairly decent if done neatly and carefully as well.

    I have it on my bike atm. look at "play" link in my sig if you want to see it.

    Will be replaced by a lizard skins one in spring, but only because i picked it up for a quid a couple of months back :D

  • They keep the noise down as well, which is the main reason I have them on my older bikes. I've never bought one, just used the ones that came free with magazines or made do with innertubes and cable ties.
