Just booked train tickets for me and the GF - £28 return for the both of us from Preston  - and a hotel right in the center, about a 5 min walk from the station for £200 for 3 nights :D

Should be fun :)

We were gonna drive and stay at a travel lodge as its pretty much the only place with parking! Cost like £15 a night too!!
But the train was so cheap it would have been rude not to!

All being well if the Hubby has had his hernia fixed we'll be riding Glentress as we pass it on the drive up and back and it would be rude not to ride it
You'll love Mary Kings Close, If youcan get on one of the other tours too, we want to try the tours round the graveyards at night...be good for a scare

if you're taking her for dinner then you should definitely go to the witchery by the castle. google it... it's really something. not as overpriced as you might expect, food is amazing, just mind and book ahead!

I gave a homeless dude a quid in Edinburgh and he did a funky little dance.

    I approved greatly.

    don't do that....

either go to Martin Wisharts in leith for reasonably priced...no nonsense michelin star food...
or rhubarb at Prestonfield House...pretty much the same food as the witchery (i think it is the same exec chef) but without the pomp.

    oh...

and the tram works on princes street are finished (for the moment at least)

If it's pub grub you're after and you enjoy ale, then I'd definitely recommend the Half Way House. It's a tiny little pub halfway up the stairs leading from Waverley Station to Cockburn Street (opposite side of station to Princes Street).

Friendly staff, good food and great beer!
