  • Hi,
Not made it up to Golspie yet but been to Laggan a couple of times. I prefer it to Glentress to be honest. Red route is fairly technical but has the right amount of fast flowing sections too with some good drop offs and a huge amount of rocky sections. Only downside is the long hard slog up the hill is mostly on fire road so its a bit dull but there is an uplift service that would take you 3/4 of the way up. Not had the balls to do the black route but they suggest body armour etc for that.
Its got a great wee cafe and a decent bike shop at the bottom too.

Agree with the above on Laggan. The 2 Red sections are great and the fun park bit is good too.

Haven't done the Black but I understand it is full on, no chicken runs, armour advisable.

Check the Forestry Commision websire for details.

Golspie is great too, 50 miles North of Inverness.
The Red is very good, particularly Valhalla, again the Black is full on I've done some of it but it is really too much for me, lots of tight steep rocky drops. There is video on YouTube.

    Google Wildcat Trails for info.

I like Learnie nera Inverness too.
    Shot by both sides...

I,ve watched some videos and it all looks good stuff but the black looks really technical.
Ita a bloody long drive from home so may split it and stop over in borders for a ride on way :)
  • It's well worth the journey tbh. Red is absolutely brilliant fun and black is a real challenge. I read a review of the black in a trails book before doing it and it said it was the most technical man-made route in the UK. I would totally agree; it's the only time I thought a full sus would be worth using on a man-made trail in the UK. But still it is definitely woth doing :P
  • oh how lucky i am to live only 30 mins from golspie, yes the black route is technical but the other routes are great fun.
but to be appreciated it should be done in good weather, there is a bonny view from the top :D

I dont think Golspie is too bad on a technical level, if anything the climbing is more technical than the descending - i dont remember any drops that couldnt be rolled for example. It is the best man made trail I've ridden probably. Learnie I found to be much more technically demanding and there were black sections there that scared me. I would also say that Laggan black had more difficult sections than Golspie.
  • I'm from there originally. Definitely worth the trip. Lots to do up there. Laggan Golspie, Balblair, Contin etc. You could base yourself in Inverness and have a fantastic weeks riding, stopping at the 7 stanes on the way up / down.
