spd pedals help please

hi
have a set of crank bros spd pedals (that i love ) but looking for some with a bigger platform with studs so can were with flats if the feeling takes me and dont want to fork out for 2 sets of pedals ( being a tight yorkshire man) dies anyone on here have any ideas
sorry can not seem to get on with shimano spds
if i had my time again would i take the time to make the right choices

    Crank brothers mallet pedals would seem to be as close as you'll get but you still need to clip in really, just gives you the option of resting your foot on the platform on any sketchy sections.

    Spd's with a cage or flat section are pretty much useless for riding as you would do with flat pedals, the mechanism always stands proud and will not be comfortable or offer any grip at all

    Flat or SPD, any combo of both is a bad compromise.
