Never knew he had it. Glad to hear he's doing well now though.0 -
I remember a while ago he appeared to have lost a lot of weight in a short space of time, there were rumours then. I hope he's on the mend and ok.0

Merckx, Fignon, Anquetil . . . is there a common factor (apart from their Tour wins)?0

I think that the rates for intestinal & stomach cancer which affected Anquetil, Fignon (and maybe Merckx) are quite low, though. (< 1%?)'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0 -

If someone in YOUR family gets Cancer, shall we assume they must have been doping....don't be stupid.so many cols,so little time!0 -
Not quite sure why Merckx is furious? Surely we're all enlightened enough to know that there's no stigma attached to having the disease? Perhaps his BFF needs to do some work on raising Merckx's 'cancer awareness'
Unfortunately Merckx's response simply invites speculation0 -

Have you entertained the possibilty that maybe he is furious because he doesnt have cancer at all and being wrongly diagnosed in the media p isses him off as it would anybody else .Gasping - but somehow still alive !0 -

I don't think I'd be furious about it though, MG - I might like to set the story straight, or regret that this story was doing the rounds or whatever but fury rather presupposes that having cancer is something to be ashamed or embarrassed about.
This week a judge decided against a longer sentence for a paedophile because he had cancer and therefore had already been 'punished by God.'
Seriously, I would have thought that challenging those kinds of unreconstructed attitudes is exactly what raising cancer awareness should be about0 -
Yeah but rule number one is don't take everything you read in the media as gospel. Seeing as this is probably translated from another language Merckx could easily have just said he's annoyed or pissed off with this story he had cancer. Seeing as it's led to speculation about doping on here I imagine the same is true of other forums - so I can see why Merckx would be annoyed - or possibly even furious - with that.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -

How about years spent following old cars/motorbikes (which kick out more gas than a fat person after eating a curry) around the world gulping in as much "fresh" air as possible for half the days in the year?0 -
who makes these stories uop and for wahat gain?0

They're about the fifth most common type of cancer in the West.0 -
