Im contemplating getting a BOSE Sound dock for my Iphone.

Is BOSE so much better than the rest and is the £100 extra than a Klipsch unit justified?

I don't know about this particular unit but I have these and they are fantastic:

Bloody expensive but listen to 100th Window or something in high quality and you really see the difference between Bose and others. If you can, go into the Bose shop - not Curry's or something - with your own iPod and they should let you see for yourself.

  • No idea how much the BOSE one is, but I know these are (a) damned fine sounding and (b) VERY fine looking...

I've got the larger Zeppelin here and the sound is fantastic.

  • I bought one of these at Xmas http://www.vitaaudio.com/products/vitaaudio-r2i.php

It is superb - great sound from such a small stylish package. It replaced a midi system in the back room and is so much clearer and punchier sounding

  • I have a BOSE Soundsytem in my Audi S3, BOSE home cinema, BOSE quiet comfort 3 headphones (noise cancelling) and A BOSE CD/radio I LOVE BOSE, they really are worth the difference!

    This is what you need!
Go into John Lewis (with your own ipod), you can compare this to the Bose, there. Also available as a Zeppelin mini, and that is well touted, too.

why are you using you phone?

why not from your music storage direct?

or are you just wanting "tunes" somewhere?

    Check www.whathifi.com
Plenty of helpful comparisons and revues on there.

Im using my phone because all the music I own is either on that or my laptop. I want something small and fairly portable that I could take from room to room if I want and this seems like the best bang for buck system.

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions.

iLounge is a good source for reviews of iPod/ iPhone peripherals.

At the lower end of the scale, I can recommend Logitech Pure-fi Anywhere:

I bought one for hotel room use, but the sound is impressive enough that we find ourselves using it more than our main stereo, because the internal battery (astonishingly long-lasting) makes it so easy to move room-to room ( I carry it around the house with me like a security blanket). Also cheap at Amazon currently.

I can only assume you sell these things becasue theyre total s hite
  • A Bose system will suit an iPod well as they both have a muddy sound that distorts the music. The iPod lacks bass and the Bose is bass heavy with little clarity so they make up for each others deficiencies. Both are overpriced to be honest but at least Bose let you buy their kit on easy terms.

A small Denon system with a line in cable would be a much better bet with much better sound even from an iPod, but obviously they aren't as sexy.

The Bose kit in the car seems to be the exception but I guess they spend a lot of time designing it for the specific environment.
  • I bought one of these at the end of last year:

Very good sound for the money and by means of a transmitter that clips into you your ipod/iphone, you can use the ipod/phone as the remote. There's no breakup or delay in the sound.

I don't sell them for any reason. I bought one and like it, as I explained. Do you have a perspective that may help anybody? Or, do you have an ambition on this forum that reaches beyond proving your boorishness?

To be fair though...I have the logitech speakers and they are crap. I got them for taking on holiday etc and while they do the job there is no way I would sit at home and listen to them....

I have a Logitech Z5500 5.1 system, at only £200, they're miles cheaper than a comparable BOSE system and they shoot well above they're price range in terms of the sound quality you get from them which is great. It's got no ipod dock, all you need is a 3.5mm jack to plug an ipod in though.

*Note to audiophiles* I am comparing them to a BOSE system, not a proper HiFi*

    Ohhhhhhh yes.

    Very poor value for money.

You can get far far better for the same amount.

Yes, the op asked for info from those who had used them, I have and i gave my perspective. I also think that by comparrison the logitech ones are crap. specifically tinny, lacking in clarity and uuuumph if thats a proper word. As for ambitions i can honestly say that i havent got anything to do with this forum other than using it as a forum in the way of ambitions. Do you plan to judge your self worth by your activity on the forum?

PC/Mac/HD into a dCS Scarlatti DAC/Upsampler with Spectral amps and Focal Utopia speakers is the bestest. But is a little more expensive than Bose.
