Before I waste any more of my evening, how do you transfer Garmin City Nav maps from dvd to the sd card on the device?
Thanks

Using Mapsource select the map tiles you want by clicking on them and then Transfer --> Send to device. Simples :)
    More problems but still living....

Thanks for the response, but you're going to have to go slower than that! OK, so I open mapsource, log on, but where are them there map tiles?

Actually I think I've done it, it's just the map doesn't look any different. Maybe I need to go a bit further outdoors to get better reception or something. Told you it was stupid!
  • What map have you selected on the 705?
There's no such thing as too old.

I got the Europe City Navigator.
  • City Nav is the mapping, Mapsource is the FREE program from Garmin you use to work with City Nav, without some form of mapping then Mapsource doesn`t do anything other than have it`s own basic basemap.

In Mapsource, open it up, top left thewre is shown what map is currently in use (yours should say "City Nav Europe NT version whatever" so that is the current map view. Zoom out the view to around 50 miles (you`ll have most of UK in the view now, then click on the button to the right of the two small "sat-nav" symbols, the one that looks like a weird shape with yellow border. When you hover the cursor over the map you now get yellow squares shown at eaxh map section. Click in the squares you want to select for download, they will turn pale pink as you select them so you can see what you`ve got. Once you`ve selcted all those you want (probably everything in the UK, there`s room for `em on the 705) go to the right-hand small "sat-nav" symbol (will show up as "send to device" and click on it. You`ll get a box opens up which will then find your 705 (you HAVE got it plugged into a USB havn`t you) and it will come up with device found, possibly two devices if you have an SD card in the 705 slot. Select which device to upload the maps too (not important which, but I`d put it on the SD card as long as the SD card is big enough) if you hav`nt got the SD card then just selsct the 705 as listed in "devices found" then follow what it says.

Disconnect the 705 from your PC, switch it on, let it find sats etc. press menu button, tab down to "settings" press the toggle button, tab down to "map" press the toggle button, top window is "detail" click on it, drop-down box opens, toggle to "most" and click. Tab down to the bottom window called "map name" there will be a list of whatever maps you`ve sent to the unit. Select the one you want using the toggle button (may be only one there) and click the toggle, should now have a tick in the box of the Euro map you sent to the unit earlier. Press "mode" button to get back to the map page, zoom in to a suitable scale and see what you`ve got, should be full map detail there now. Enjoy
