I remember seeing some on here. How many of you have made your own?
I thinking about doing it, any tips on material and techniques?

See what you want and copy it. You don't have to make it nice and light, just use sensible materials - steel is good as it can be cut, bolted or welded.
For padding, use pipe insulation and cable ties to hold inplace.

I personally wouldnt risk making my own, I would be distraught if it all came crashing down around me (not that I doubt my own ability to build one)
You can purchase a solid, decent workstand for about £50 which I think is a great deal. I am very pleased with mine (from Merlin)
By the time you have purchased the (quality) clamp and materials etc, taking labour into account, it's easier to just buy one with confidence.
I wouldn't put my rig in some 2x4 frame with a makeshift clamp, that's for sure.0 -
I'm with The Big Cheese on this one. I appreciate the cost aspect involved in building your own. But when you can buy a good stand for £50 that's where my money goes.
However, if you really want to build your own, there's instructions for one here0 -
There's the Decathlon stand at only £30? I got one.. does the job fine 8)0

i saw someone using 2 hooks which were attached to the ceiling of a shed(i think). i might do that as i don't usually need a bike stand for repairs. but sometimes i wish i had one to make things easier a quicker0
