  • Have you tried slackening off the clips on the pedals ?

I doubt the Speedplay's would be any easier.
Have you backed off the tension adjustment on the pedals?
I have always had SPD-SL's and never a problem.
Are the cleat's worn? This can have an effect on unclipping.

If you look at the cleat, you will see (maybe!) little rubber bits on them, Yellow, or Red, depending on which cleat you chose. These are to protect the cleats form wear caused by walking. If badly worn, change the cleat.
How long they last, depends on how often/how far you walk!
If in doubt, get the LBS to look at them.

i have to say the yellow bits on my cleats do look at little bit chewed up....and not exactly square like the used to look....

so does anyone have any tips for set up of cleats?

  • I sat on the edge of a table and let my feet dangle.

I then set the cleats up at the correct angle so they'd be aligned with the pedals.

    SPD are easiest IMO

    SPD-SL are much nicer though.

What I did was, just go out on your local road, and practice nothing but clipping in out - then try on a slight incline. Do this a couple of times a week and I m sure you will crack it.

Look Keo Classic is easy to get in and out of. It seems the dearer the pedal the higher the tension ranges.
