What will the world be like in 30 years?

I don't know why, but last night it occurred to me that I'll be the same age that my parents died in 30 - 35 years. Looking back I realised that the world has changed considerably in the same length of time. International politics have changed dramatically with the end of the cold war and the rise of the far east influentionally and economically. Terrorism used to be of the home grown variety (IRA, Bader Meinhoff etc). Technologically some things were unimaginable: personal mobile communications, the internet etc.

The world must have looked almost alien, at the end, to my parents and it got me wondering how things'll look when I'm their age.

What'll be different in 2040?

    Bikes in the UK will be fitted with registration plates 12 inches long and 8 inches deep. A compulsory £10 a year tax will be introduced on bikes, and, to top it all off - we will all be forced to ride into oncoming traffic if we want to use roads.

    VED will be named Road Tax to allow motorists to continue to bully us, and bicycle riders will not be able to take out insurance so that motorists have another string in their bow.

    Close?

    I did wonder about this, along with us being forced off of the roads and onto cyclepaths.

    Hover cars were one othe predictions of 30 years ago that never happened. Another was routine space flights with bases and industry on the moon and Mars. I can see the Chinese going for it if the balance of power contiinues to shift. If not the planets, then the asteroid belt.

    If Virgin Galactic works out, I think it'd be even more likely.

    Cycling will be outlawed coz Allah doesn't like it
  • All the kids will support Spurs because we will be the dominate force in Football and will have won the European League (which will replace the Champions League in 2025) for the 3rd time in a row.

  • Oh dear, here we go, too often my predictions come true.... although Amy Winehouse made it through 2009, I got that one wrong!

    There will be a further decline in society, estates full of unemployed, unemployables getting through the days smoking, drinking and taking drugs, spending money that the rest of us pay in taxes, in other words like now only worse.

    Warnings of the onset of another Ice Age will become common place.

    Roads will be in a terrible state, potholes everywhere, no help if it snows, in other words like now only worse.

    Crime will really start getting out of control with Police no go areas (see estates above), spreading out into other areas as a means of support of the social problems highlighted above.

    There will be routine disruptions to the gas supply as terrorists target gas pipelines coming from Russia.

    Brown/Black outs will become common place due to the above and over dependencies on electricity get out control.

    There still will be no flying cars.

    Flying to holiday destinations will become the reserve of the rich as fuel costs and taxes rise pricing out the current frequent flyers.

    The value of property will reach a peak which will be followed by a huge fall, the houses becoming vacant will be purchased by the super rich who will own vasts property portfolios, renting will become common place once again.

    There will be a huge space race triggered by China sending astronauts to the moon, colonies will be formed soon after with areas of the moon sectioned off.

    I think you've all been watching too much blade runner.
    Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.
  • There will be many innovations in cycling technology. And the UCI will ban them all.

    Thats like a lefty daily mail predictions for the future.
    Since when were bad estates getting worse? I though they were getting better, based on crime figures, and it was simply the awareness of crime that was rising?

    I reckon everything will be broadly similar, more liberal, possibly a bit more right wing. Hppefully we won't fall into the trap of getting scared about everything, as America does atm.

    What'll be different-
    I'll be reaching the pinnacle of my career as the global operations director (GOD) of a large multi-national. Not the best job on the board, but definitely the best named.

    And I'll probably have put a bit of weight on...
    "I hold it true, what'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost;
    Than never to have loved at all."

    People will still be moaning about things aren't as good as they used to be!

    Look at history - technology develops, movements come and go but people have always been the same, so things will not be so very different - a mix of good & bad.

    implants instead of phones
    the virtual world will expand
    AI will be a reality - and potential threat?
    rich old people will live longer and even begin to make themselves a bit younger again.
    there will be a huge industry based on carbon capturing
    in 30 years time the carbon neutral economy will just about be establishing itself again, but some new environmental problem will be rearing it's ugly head by then - probably lack of rare elements needed for high tech electronics. hopefully we'll be mining on the moon by then.

    Old people (i.e. my generation) will have gone back to living in huge communes and our behaviour will be more outrageous than ever.

    Young people (the minority) will be diligent and oppressed by us and made to fund our filthy habits through a thinly-disguised but cleverly marketed form of slave labour (they will think that they have control)

    Mwuhahahahaha!

    Bring it on! :D

    Not quite...bit of a misunderstood thing is global warming...

    Try freeking cold. If we continue to burn fossil fuels at the rate we are and we do not do something about CO2 emisssions then we will experience a second ice age..why?

    Well the polar ice caps will melt and drop a shed load of freshwater into the atlantic gulf stream...disturb this and we experience some pretty cold weather!

    We will then be able to ice skate on the Thames as it will be frozen. Could be interesting though?? :shock:

    Mind you if we can control CO2 emissions and get Obama to sort out the US as well as many LEDCs to control their emissions then we may be in luck....and of course collect all the methane from cows arses then we may have a chance( cows are one of the major contributors to greenhouse gases)

    I suggest investing money in polar clothing because everyone will be buying it!!
