Where to measure new handlebars?

Thinking off treating myself to some new bars and not sure which width to go for? Do I measure my present ones center to center or outer to outer if you get what I mean?

    You should measure across your back from shoulder to shoulder and that should be near as damn your bar size.....To narrow will restrict your breathing and make you slower than you actually are and also so to wide will also make you slower due to the drag factor...I hope this helps :D

    Some manuafcturers measue C-C, othere outside edges. It's normally stated which though.
    Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos
