Lapierre, Whyte or Yeti??

I had a 2008 medium e120, which I loved. I then managed to make a mess of my back, breaking 6 vertebra. As a result I had to swap it for large. I still love the bike but feel a little exposed perched on the top of it as unsurprisingly it feels quite 'large'.

I don't want to spend another protracted period of time testing bikes and defiantly don't want to waste the time of my LBS to find it's me and not the bike.

I will add I was 5'11 and I'm now 5'9,1/2 though I'm gaining more flexibility and expect to further improve.

What I'm looking for is comments from anyone who has any experience of the 2010 Lapierre 714, Yeti ASR 5c and can make comparisons against the e120.

Bit of a tall order but there might be one or two out there in the know...

I think you still should test a few - a good bike shop wouldn't mind this. Even if it is just a carpark ride it will give you some idea of riding position and comfort - very important given your injury.

Sure, let's see the comments from other users - but we are all different shapes and sizes, and then we have personal preference ;-).

If you are going to further improve would it not be wise to wait a bit, just in case you change the bike and then it's not right later.

If do go for a new bike make sure you leave enough flexibility to change the cockpit later if necessary.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"
  • Thanks roberpb & supersonic for your comments, all very relevant and quite right, but in reply; I usually change my bikes every year or two so happy to replace my bike as I improve, and am waiting for my LBS to get in a 714 tester.

I'm hoping someone can give me the low down before I through my leg over one.

To be honest what ever I do I'll be over-biked :)

    Anyone?
  • mmm interesting.

I used to own a Zesty til 2 weeks ago - lovely, we sell quite a few as well here so know them pretty well.

The Yeti we sell too - tried one and ordered one for a Zesty replacement, but i ended up with an Ibis Mojo instead.

Test rode the 5 and the 714 a few times. Quite different bikes... my pref was for the 5.

We don't do the Whyte so can't comment, from what i have heard though they are really nice.

You need to try them out for sure.

If you want personal opinions on the 714 and the 5 then you are welcome to call - got my non work head on today - and i don't 'sell' on the phone. Not the right way to do things.

Anyway, to sum up. Test ride!
