  • Does that mean that there is one less pimp poo-coloured 456 about (for the time being) now?

    t'is a sad day.

Although not for you obviously. Good deal on that frame.

    Cat With No Tail

    Unfortunately it does :(
Just got the rear brake to bleed tomorrow then will give it it's maiden voyage Friday morning. It'll be an interesting ride, certainly different from the 456! Reading the reviews on the stock bike, they reckoned it rode well, but was let down by the components.
Does buying green cable ties to match the frame decals make me a bike tart btw?
  • Yeh, should be a much nicer ride with those forks on. I hear anything under 120mm on a 456 frame can be a bit sketchy.

Green Cable ties FTW! If you see any orange ones let me know :D

What made you change frames? Looks nice that anyway.

Also, the superstar laser chain guide is the same price as that e-thirteen one and has top and bottom guides, i'd reccommend one (I have one).

Nice bike. I was lusting after one of those in the sales but just didn't have the cash.

I just put one of those e.13s on a 1x9, seems alright. Took a lot of messing around to get it aligned though. From what I hear, the MRP 1.X is easier to set up but some people say they have a tendency to fall apart.

Another option would be the Rohloff version or the Paul's (very small and clean looking, but a little more expensive).

Don't see why you'd need a bottom guide too much. My local trails are very rocky and rooty and I haven't lost the chain in about 6hrs of riding so far.

*edit: Looking at the CRC link, mine was a bit cheaper than that from ukbikestore.co.uk
  • i like that!
looks a very nice frame! just looks lijke a proper bike if you like??

I've always like the Iron Horse frames, especially the Azure. I followed a link on here from someone else, and it was in the related links on the bottom of the Ebay page! The 456 was a really good frame, felt very floaty over roots etc, but i was secretly wanting a full susser. Plus, i have the 'I wants' bad since selling all my mini's i used to mess about with, so the bike has replaced them!

Cheers all for the advice on guides, looks like I've got some research to do!

I'll get some better pics up when/if i find the decent camera!

1st ride today, I'm really pleased with it, the tyres roll really well, and gave plenty of grip in the gloop (despite the rear only being a 2.0). It feels like there's more than 90mm travel on the rear too when you need it, but it's like climbing with a hardtail when it gets steeper! Amazing design.

Only problem is, I've got really bad frame rub after 2 hours in the saddle. All the way through to the metal in 2 places, and the rear chainstay is scuffed from my trainer too. So, some patches and bike tape on order, and won't be going out again until they're on.

Also put a better piccie up on 1st post.

Needed a new chainring, as the 32t from my XT set was pretty worn, and i figured having a single speed ring up front would help keep the chain on better, with it having larger teeth. I've probs covered about 200miles on the new frame now, on and off road, and the chain has only come off once. That was hopping up a kerb, yet I've hammered it down trails with no problems! Fingers crossed the new ring will sort this though.

Went for a E.thirteen 32t ring, naturally in green!

Loving this bike, and really enjoying the 10 mile each way commute to work and back. Should mean I'm nice and fit come summer, so i can spend all day on the trails!

What sort of rear sus setup is that?

All done for now, except for some new fork details. Babies due in about a month, and i don't think I'd get a massive improvement on my spec, without spending silly money, and even then i don't think it'd ride any better.

I'm really glad i swapped out the 456 frame now, the bike climbs like a daemon, and flows so well on the single track i ride. Can't wait for the summer so i can really gun it.

Here's how it looks now :

Looks good :P Where do you ride other than Bedgers?

Bedgers or Bewl for me really, moved to the area not long back, so don't really know much else. Keep meaning to speak to the Sketchy MTB lot about going out on a ride with them over Blean though. I'm sure during the summer I'll try South Downs etc!

Friston Forest is also worth a trip, aswell as lots of routes along the Downs. I think PORC have an XC route, at least they used to, not sure if it's still there?

Other than those there's not really much in Sussex.

Wasn't PORC having problems because of someone cutting down an old tree/building a hut or similar? I'll look into Friston! Cheers buddy!

PORC is still open, but the trails abit neglected. I think they've found quite a few volunteers to re-vamp it for the summmer? I might go and help actually :P

If you want a ride in Friston sometime, PM me, aslong as you don't mind riding with a 13 yr old

Decals added. I really like them, they're amazing quality, and went on nicely. Was a bit concerned putting them over the powerbulge on the legs, but went on fine.

Now looking at getting some new flat pedals, as i find the v12's aren't wide enough for me with my am40's on. Maybe some superstar pedals. Or if i get a bonus this month, some penthouse flat 3's in biketart green. Nom. Just goes to show, even when you think it's finished you still want to buy more tarty bits!
