Just had to go out this afternoon and try my new wheels out before the snow got here.

Didn't beat it in the end though as for the last five miles the white fluffy stuff started falling...BRRRRR

On my route though I was attacked by a gritter coming the other way. I know they are a rare beast these days but are they supposed to spray you with little rocks?

I was doing 20 ish and I guess the gritter was doing about 30...that's some 50mph stones hitting me, and more importantly, my bike :o
Didn't arf sting a bit...I know, I know I'm soft etc :D

As long as they have their flashing yellow lights on they are allowed to shot-blast you. I would have though it polite to cease gritting for a moment as they pass. Maybe he was just jealous of you new wheels....

I've found that they usually do pause for cyclists here - but then gritting is a pretty normal part of life round here.

I am surprised he had any grit left.

The gritter came through our village last night on his way home without putting anything down, and we are supposed to be on a priority route! The rest of the road network has been ignored due to lack of grit.
  • The grit they used on the A38 on Saturday night was very sharp soon led to me getting a visit from the fairy after riding on it for about a mile on Sunday - still better than falling of on ice, and was a good excuse to fit some new tyres !

The image in my mind is the bin lorry doing a 180 to go for Trinity in the Matrix
