Recently bought these at a bargain for €70.
Is it just me or is it incredibly hard to clip them in?
Am at the point, where I am barely able to stop myself slamming my foot in, possibly damaging my cranks.
Any help?
Should I revert to the tried and trusted Shimano SPD?
Must go faster.

  • I've never riden on Time pedals, I'm a Speedplay man myself, but I do remember hearing at my LBS once that they did have a quirky way of clipping. Can I suggest you either find a rider with Time pedals and get them to show you how to clip in, or try a bike shop?

    Good luck!!
  • When I first moved to Time pedals I had a bit of a problem clipping in too, there certainly is a knack.

Thinking about it now, what you have to do is get the point at the front of the cleat into the lip at the front of the pedal, then press down. Should go in nice and easy.

I switched from Look to Time last year. I much prefer the Time pedals. I never have a problem clipping in with my right foot, but the left is harder for some reason. Not sure why.

SSS is spot on. You need to press more straight down to clip in rather than sliding forward into the pedal. Took me ages to get the knack and occationally I still struggle to get clipped in while my mates zoom off down the road. They are good pedals though and have definately helped my dodgy knee.

Yup I found Xen's to be a bugger. I've had a pair of the cheapest ones for about 18 months now and they've just about loosened up enough to make clipping in possible within a couple of metres rather than still trying 2 miles down the road. Hated them at first because of the difficulty but now I actually prefer them to the RXS, cleat seems to slide into position more easily and the larger platform feels nice.
  • Kinda got the knack, then totally forgot it and ended up with a bruised side and people laughing at me. It is a tricky one, there is a technique (thanks SSS) and they need a bit of loosening up.
Theyre REALLY easy to unclip tho, very quick.

  • Glad I could help! I'd certainly stick with them. Changed to Time pedals after using SPDs SLs/Look pedals and found them so much better. Any knee issues disappeared immediately.
