We are planning to do the mtb coast to coast in june - following the tim woodcock route.
Has anybody done the route? and is the woodcock recomendation of 6/7 days - stopping at eskdale, ambleside, kirby stephen, grinton, osmotherly and glaisdale, ok for the distance and terrain etc? We are all forty somethings, but relativly fit and experienced.
Could the route be shortened to say - 5/6 days easily?
Many thanks for any advice, steve

I did the route featured in mbr a couple of years back, i dont know if this is the one, it would be fine to do in five days as long as your relatively fit. If its the route we did be ready to hate the lake district! once you pass teabay and the motorway its the best feeling in the world...the end of the lakes!0

Tim Woodcock's classic Coast to Coast mountain bike ride - often described as the Holy Grail of UK off-road tours. Following in the footsteps of Wainwrights original Coast to Coast walk this is a seriously tough challenge between St. Bees Head and Robin Hood's Bay.
Includes 10 pages of schematic mapping, route cards with detailed route instructions, information on where to stay, bike shops and rail access, technical tips from experienced off-road tourers, ridden and researched with local mountain bikers.
N.B. this is a "full-on" mountain bike route which requires good navigation skills and detailed maps or GPS, not to be confused with the Sustrans Sea to Sea (C2C) cycle route.
On a personal level i'd go for 5/6 days if i could.0 -
Thanks guys for your reply's.
Yes 5/6 days would be better all round if possible.
Matt - you said you did the route, did you do it in 5 days and if so where did you stay overnight?
Thanks Steve0 -
This might help:
http://www.sherpavan.com/accomm_booking ... p?trail=CC
You don't actually have to book through them but it'll give you an idea.
The baggage service is good also, save carrying everything 8)
Tip:
If you use the baggage service they charge per case.3 of us got the biggest case we could find and shared when we did the WHW.Nice dry clothes at night and just daypacks made for a comfortable few days 8)0
