I have decided to upgrade the wheels on my trek hybrid 7.3 fx. Its running a shimano 8 speed rear block. Could i fit road bike wheels say shimano rs20 clinchers? or would i need something stronger as the roads i coumute on are not the best. :? :? :?

Your wheels are 700c, so need to match that and ensure has an 8/9 speed freehub and rim brake surface.

What are you wanting from your new wheels? If weight decrease, weigh what you have minus the tyres, tubes, cassette and skewers.

My GF's '08 7.3FX has 135mm rear hub spacing (standard road is 130mm) and yours is likely the same, so you'll need to factor that when looking at wheels. You'll find your choices are much reduced, unless you go for a custom build.

Mavic Speedcity seem to have a good reputation, but they're pricy and I'm not sure of their weight.

Lighter tyres and tubes are the best place to start, then the wheels themselves.

    Cheers

  • it's a hybrid, get some decent handbuilts, they're generally more reliable, stronger and easier to get spares for. Plus you don't need to worry about spacing etc, ask lbs for appropriate hub and rim, then get them to build it up with DB spokes.

This sounds like the best option i will get some built. The wheels just need to be strong' not too concerned about the weight of the wheels thanks for the info cheers :D:D
