Chainset comparison

Hello,
Can anyone help with a comparison from Truvativ to Shimano.
What is the Truvativ Firex 3.3 GXP chainset and BB compared to within Shimano? Deore/SLX/XT?
Thanks.

Just compare the relevant prices for an idea.0

Miles below, none of the truvative bb setups work very well IME.
The shimano system just works so much better because of the pinch bolts.0 -
Also weight isn't a good indicator without intended use. SAINT is relatively heavy (I assume, not actually checked this), but it is also super-strong. The firex is a fairly basic crank, in intent terms it is on par with deore, but doesn't perform as well.0

Sorry, basically they just have the end-cap. So there is not really any pre-loading of the system, you have one bit holding the LH arm on and loading the bearings.
The shimano system, you have the same cap that pre-loads the bearings to take any play out, accounting for small differences in the bb width after facing, and then two opposed pinch bolts that actually do the crank arm holding on. It's the only system where I haven't written off the LH crank as I ride left foot forward and ss i tend to go through them far faster than more sensible cyclists apparently.
So in other-words, any of the shimano cranks would be a step up IMHO, SLX is the sweet-spot for price/performance.0 -

I've got a Truvativ Stylo chainset on my bike, came as standard. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it apart from the sealing of the bearings, which isn't great.
I think on strength terms they're comparable with any other standard chainset, e.g Deore/SLX/XT, but not things like Saint which are aimed at the harder hitting side of things.
I think the single bolt system is simpler, and I've not had any issues as a result of it, don't know what other people's experiences are though.
If I was buying a replacement I'd get something by Shimano I think. But I wouldn't say that the Firex is fundamentally flawed in any way.0
