Looks like one to watch for the future........having just set the 2nd fastest ever 4km individual pursuit time (4:14.427) at the Australian Track Nationals.

Boardman still holds the record with a fair margin (4:11.114) although this was set with the outlawed "Superman" position.

The qualifying round saw another young South Australian shine with elite debutant, Rohan Dennis, 19, clocking 4:15.764 to earn a place in the gold medal final against Bobridge.

Any word on the conditions there, as it seems all the riders are clocking quick times? Bobridge is known as a big talent for the future and is being groomed by Garmin.

"Groomed by Garmin" makes me think of Vaughters going all Gok Wan and styling people's hair and selecting tartan pants for them to wear.

What is this "pursuit" thing - Is it one of those events from the olden days?

  • Bobridge Shmobridge. The big question is who won the Omnium?

Glad garmin are "grooming" him so that when he starts to look the business a decent team will come in and poach him!
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.

Hope your prediction about poaching doesn't come true, Lance Armstrong apparently wanted him for the shack - maybe he plans to sign all prospects at Garmin just to piss off Vaughters!

Isnt that just professional team sport though where young talent is always snapped up by teams that can afford to pay that bit more .

It is. Vaughters actually writes about this a bit in the new Procycling. He's got a good point that at the moment there is little protection for teams who want to run a U23 program and are worried people will just nick their riders. So little incentive for teams to do it.

This is why a football style transfer system, which many here object to, could in my opinion, be good for cycling. It makes sure that those doing the developing get financially rewarded for it. The football team I support has the best youth system in the country and it's kept us solvent over the years.
