stretched and usless after last nights frost? I leave my bike in the shed and when I got on it this morning I set off down a hill and realised the cables had stretched so the brakes were usless and couldn't change gears. luckily not much momentum built up and came to a safe halt. Might have to keep the steed indorrs in future :)

Cant imagine how cables would stretch in frost???

Must be some other reason I should think.
  • cold makes metal contract

more likely moisture in the outers had frozen so the cables couldn't move

Your cables and/or brake pivots are dirty and wet.

It's happened to me . When the winter weather hit I briefly had a 3-speed bike instead of a 24-speed, and the glaze of ice on the rims made the brakes somewhat uncertain to say the least...
