    hello dazza,
thats a nice bike mate (used to have the 90mm travel anthem).
i see the weight of the x4 is just over 27lbs which makes it fairly light to start with, if i were you id replace things as they wear out, but if you want to do it now the best place to start is with rotating mass ie wheels. upgrading here is where you will notice the biggest difference not only in weight but in ride charactoristics
    cheers

As above, wheels are probably the best place to save weight (not sure what those tyres weigh, but you might be able to save some there). After that maybe cassette and crankset...

Great bike though, get some pics up! :D

+1^^, wheels/tyres first, although you'd be looking at around £300+ for a good lightweight set of wheels, then everything else
  • TBH with the wheels, i'd spend a bit more and get something really light and strong. If you buy a £300 wheelset, you just end up wanting the £500 set a year or so down the road.

The best thing would probably be the tyres though, then strip the bike down and weigh the parts individually, and work out where you can save the most weight.
  • I bought an Anthem X4 towards the end of last year and absolutely love it. Re the weight, well it's not bad already tbh, so unless you want to start racing it I can't see the point on spending too much, but if you do then defo wheels/tyres are the best way to go.

The stock Michelin tyres aren't bad at c.600 grams, but you could easily knock 100 g off per wheel with lighter tyres, plus getting on for a similar amount on lightweight inners if you really want. That'd already be close to 1 pound gone...
  • i have got maxxis cross marks with the slim tubes in they wiegh a bit but worth havin it sounds like ive got a gud bike on here from u guys thanx
  • I was going to say take a look at the Anthems further up the range to see how they differ.. Giant list the X3 as 23lbs but interestingly the higher spec X2 and X1 as 25 and 24libs respectively.. is that right? Sturdier equipment I guess..

That X4 is pretty light to begin with.. guess the Fox fork contributes a lot to the low weight..

 If you look at the Kg weight figures, the X3 is heavier, but it's the other way round when they list them in lbs.

Says a lot about claimed weight figures I guess...

I think that claimed weight for the X3 is definitely a typo! But I have always wondered just how accurate these listed weights really are... but from my point of view the X4 feels pretty decent weight-wise for a full susser, so at the moment that's good enough for me :)
  • its a brill bike from wot ive experienced so far cant wait 4 the weekend 2 give it sum welly

Yeah it feels like more than 100mm at times. Which trails did you ride?

I love how easily you can hustle it through tricky sections and then just carry speed when others are braking and pedaling :D
  • i done penhydd 1st then the wall on the same day thats when i woz blowin woznt used to that xtra bit of wieght it makes a heck of a difference from my h,t i had an xtc 4 goin 2 try the black soon onit see how i get on.
