bottom bracket lock ring query
Hi, I'm setting off on a cycle tour across Vietnam, and up through Laos, had bottom bracket repalced with a cartridge type 2 piece sealed bottom bracket but I see there is no lock ring on the non drive side and a little thread showing, is it missing?...the splined non drive side cup was screwed in with a wrench..but am wondering if this is normal-bikeshop showed me 4 other MTBs of the 500 quid range with no lockring, shop claim no need for lock ring. Do you have locker ring on your cartridge type BB?
Am a little paranoid as will be really out in the sticks for 2 weeks...no tool kit to hand for BB
Thanks for any info..

There's a lockring on my Veloce BB, which is the Ultra Torque variety with outboard cups. Not sure I've seen them on cartridge style though...Ben

Looks fine to me ... Octalinks are like that too. Screw the black one in all the way, then the grey one acts kind of like a retainer / lock ring.
PS
Don't be tempted to over tighten it, or it will break... who said that, internet forum people ?0 -
No need for a lockring because the non-drive cup doesn't hold the bearing and therefore doesn't experience any rotational forces which could cause it to loosen. Cup and cone BB's need them to stop them unscrewing from the frameMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Monty Dog, Rockmount, Ben6899... thanks for your comments/info re cartridge BBs. I am leaving it like it is..language barrier is tricky too at bike shops, so re the BB, if it ain't broke, don't fix it is what am going to do.0
