Have been doing a bit of research into the powerbreathe with 4 resistance settings. I find myself breathing quite erraticaly when doing hard efforts on the bike and thought this may help with capacity and control. Has anyone used them before and will it help with my time trials/ hillclimbing. Thanks

I've just been reading a journal article about the effect of 'Inspiratory Muscle Training' on swimming performance, and in this it states that IMT has been:
shown to improve time trial performance in competitive
athletes across a range of sports

I have no personal experience of Powerbreathe however, so can't comment from experience. I don't think the increase in performance would be massive at any rate.
  • From what ive read even the manafacturers openly state that its a once off improvment. Its a very simply principal really but you do need a note of caution. If you dig a little deeper into the research on powerbreath devices (not just the stated research of the manafactureres) there seems to be mixed opinions as to whether they actually work or not.
As with Tom1990 im not speaking from experience either.
