Carron Valleys new look?
just got back from a short trip to carron valley today and although i have been there 3 times since it repoened it has always been in snow and ice. today however was clear and what a difference the resurfacing has made. the upper section is pretty much the same as before with the kelpie stasircase being shallower but the runway is much faster and flowing than before. i found myself going round it 3 times! thats a first as i am normally done after one.
now im not saying it would replace a trip to GT but if your in the area it is worth a shot now more than before!

Still never been yet but hopefully soon , As much as I enjoy Glentress you do find yourself getting kinda bored of it after a few times.0

Kelpies was just surfaced over so it's the same rocks underneath, Pete reckons it'll return to something more like it was once it starts getting more wheels over it. 2 chicken runsUncompromising extremist0

Hi there.
I've just joined the board after returning to mountain bikes after a bit of a break.
Was up at Carron Valley on Sunday and really enjoyed it. I found it a good set of trails. Only thing was that is was maybe a bit on the short side. I didn't to the Runway as I was just up for a short-ish recce, but really enjoyed the downhill bit of Eas Dhu and the Cannonball Run.
Hoping to go back this weekend, this time to hit the Runway as well. Very keen to get back into mountain biking after the break. Still trying to catch up with the latest stuff, but it's looking good so far.

Hey, I went up to Carron Valley a number of times last year, not been since it reopened. What's been done up there? Just resurfacing? any new bits of trail? please say the jumps have lips on them again?0

Was back up at Carron yesterday with my brother.
Had an absolute ball. Was very very quiet - only around 5 other cars there and we were there most of the morning. Wee bit damp underfoot (underwheel?) but it was great fun. Went round the whole thing once then the freeride an extra time too. Got a lot of confidence back after the long break and generally felt a lot fitter and back in the groove.
The freeride section was brilliant fun. Grabbed a bit more air on one particular jump than I meant to though! Takes me back to my days of pummelling the bmx track as a teenager!

the surfaces have been improbved immensley using teh same composuite as you find in new sections at GT. this has improved the speed and the flow hopwever it has dumbed it down slightly also but no big deal to be honest
Eas Dubh ...the firsts ection before the rock feature has been improved immensley and has picked up considerable speed. However as it goes in teh woods it is still the worst designed route I've ever ridden. It has no flow or rthym to it and needs to be compeltly redesigned to make it even enjoyable. However where the work has been done it has imprioved the routes
Worth a quick blast of you live local but wouldn't travel any distance to try it
Comes back again to the potential of teh palce
with some investment and route building it could be so much better but I understand there was major problems between a number of interest groups and teh FC a while back.
Still as I'm no trail builder I feel it's not really my place to crticise but it does seem like a wasted opportunity
Just hoping Glasgow build quality routes at the Cathkin braes for the commonwealth games which would be handy having trails pretty much within the city. Not heard if there is any work happeningEnough bikes to open a bike shop but always room for one more...0 -
was up there at the weekend the 1st in about a year, what a differance
i think kelpies is a bit shorter than it was before, you just seem to be on it then your off it again
vast improvement on the runway, really flows now, but i think the last few jumps arent as good as they were beforeonly when you stare death in the face do you feel most alive0
