New Rear Derailer Advice

The split ring / circlip thing on my hanger bolt wont stay in it's recess meaning there is too much sideways movement so the b-screw will not stay on the platform which then makes the upper pulley go into my cassette so no gear changes.

So I'm looking to upgrade the X5 to X7 derailer and I have a couple of questions:

Will the X7 be compatible with my existing X5 shifter?
The derailer is listed as Sram X7 Esp rear derailer, what does the Esp mean?
Will it be okay on my 8 Speed set up?
Do I need medium or long version?

I'll be running Sram X5 shifters, Shimano HG40 8 speed 11-34 cassette.

Thanks

3 front chainrings > long cage mech
    2 " " > medium mech
    1 " " > short mech
    0 " " > unicycle :D
  • Nice one, thanks.
Out of curiosity and I'm probably being really thick, but what does the ESP mean in the product description?

an old acronym referring to the pull ratio of 1:1 that sram use.
